roastedamoeba
Hello, I am looking to purchase the Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI motherboard. I would also like to get 2Gb of RAM. However, I have not been able to find any information about whether it's better to get 2 lots of 2x512Mb, or 1 set of 2x1Gb. I'm not concerned about future expansion, so I don't mind if all the slots are filled now. My question is purely about performance - which is better? Since 2x1Gb seem to be a lot more expensive, I'm guessing it would also have better performance - is that true? I've been looking at this memory: Corsair (VS1GBKIT400) 1024MB (2 x 512MB Matched Pair) (I would need to get two sets of tis) But maybe 2x1Gb would be better? Thanks, Tim
CMC_SAVAGE
Since 2x1Gb seem to be a lot more expensive, I'm guessing it would also have better performance - is that true? No, it's just the cost. If this is going to be a new purchase and you're not adding to any existing RAM, then getting a TWINX2048 set would be the best choice. TWINX2048-3200C2, TWINX20483500LL or the VS2GBKIT400.
leeghoofd
One set of 2 x 1 gig dimms, its better to remain at DDR400 speeds and the new modules should run at 1T command ( which you might go to DDR333 or even 2T with 4 x 512 modules installed to ensure stability) And the 1 gig modules are dropping nicely in price :)
