If your motherboard is the following:

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum/SLI&class=mb

For dual channel to function, one stick should go first into the green dim1(channel A) slot with the second stick going into the purple dimm2 slot(channel B) or one stick in the green dimm slot 3(channel A) and the second stick in the purple slot 4(channel B). According to the MSI warning always put a stick in the green slot first then the purple slot. Good luck.

Correct. MSI's way of doing dual-channel is different from what Asus does: With MSI, you need to put one memory module into the first green slot and an identical memory module into the first purple slot in order to do dual-channel. If you put memory modules into both green slots while leaving the purple slots empty will force single-channel operation. Asus's (and most other motherboard manufacturers') way of doing dual-channel involves simply putting identical memory modules into matching-colored slots.
