Bad DDR400 Value Select modules?

Recommended Posts

Hi Ram Guy,

I'm writing you because I think I have a problem with two sticks of Corsair Value Select DDR400 that I bought about two years ago from an online Italian reseller (http://www.chl.it).

I have a PC so configured:

- Asus P4C-800E Deluxe;

- P4 Prescott 2.8Ghz;

- 2*Corsair Value Select DDR400 512Mb sticks labeled VS512MB400, lot 0344117;

- Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro 256Mb;

- 1*Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus 120Gb IDE;

- 1*Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus 120Gb SATA;

- 1*Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus 200Gb SATA;

- 1*Enermax NoiseTaker 370W;

- 1*120*120mm fan;

- 2*80*80mm fans;

- Windows XP Pro SP2.

What happened:

About a month ago my PC - usually rock solid - started giving Blue Screens with many different messages but most often "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"; it happened randomly, sometimes it could not even boot, sometimes it could work under heavy load (video editing and rendering) for hours flawless.

I started removing PCI boards, HDs and optical drives but nothing changed; I tried a different graphic board with same results and finally I used Memtest86 to check the RAM.

I run the tests several times and I never got them to finish: at the beginnig Memtest itself chashed, then it started giving tens of errors and crashed again.

Since I need the PC for my work I immediatly bought two sticks of cheap no-brand DDR400 ram and started Memtest again: it run for 6 hours flawless.

Now the PC is perfectly working (10 days without BSOD).

So, what can I do with my two sticks of Value Select?

Thank you for reading, thank you for your patience,

hope to hear from you soon, :)
