alwayspainted
I purchased 2 - 512MB modules of Value Select RAM (Model#VS512SDS266 / Item#N82E16820145482) for my Toshiba Satellite Pro M15-S405. Toshiba's detailed spec sheet for my system stated: PC2100 DDR SODIMMData/Address Bus Width:64bit/32bitIntel 855PM Chipset When I opened my laptop up to put in the new memory, I was surprised to find that it had PC2700 in it (2 modules- Samsung 256MB DDR PC2700 CL2.5). I am a novice at this, but I do know that PC2700 can be "backwards compatible". I'm confused why Toshiba had put the PC2700 in instead of the PC2100 as required on their own spec sheet. My question is: Can I install the new RAM in my system and will any function be lost going from PC2700 to PC2100? Thank you
Wired
Like you said, they're backwards compatible, so the PC2700's in there are probably just running @ PC2100 speeds. They probably used PC2700's because they are probably cheaper and easier to get than PC2100's nowadays. The VS may work fine, but if not here's what Corsair recommends for your laptop: http://compatible.corsairmemory.com/mini/search_redir.aspx?type=sys&mfgid=85&modelid=37525 A Complete List of Modules Compatible with your Product Part # Size CMSS512MB-266SOD 512MB CMSS256MB-266SOD 256MB
