dharmlost
I just bought a stick of 1gb Corsair ram from Newegg.com, and they told me to contact Corsair with my problem, which brought me here. I got the ram this morning, and installed it, making sure it was properly fit with all the gold tabs inserted properly. I started up my computer and instantly smelled something burning, so I turned it off and removed the new stick of ram, which was hot to the touch. Two of the gold tabs on the stick of ram are charred, as well as the RAM slot it was in, where the two charred gold tabs were. Now I cannot get my PC to start up at all, even after I tried removing the computer's battery for a couple of hours as was recommended to me by a friend. So I am wondering, what am I to do? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 6, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 6, 2005 Can you tell me our modules part# (How To Read the Memory Label) and the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
dharmlost
The model number is VS1ZGB400C3. The Processor is an AMD Athlon 3200+, and the ram was set to run at DDR400. The motherboard is a Gigabyte Technology KT600. FSB 400. As to what my bios was set to, I built this computer over a year ago and set everything then, and now I can't access it to tell you what the settings are, as I forget them. Wired
Memory sticks are passive in PCs. Can't see how they could have caused any damage, but a bad slot / mobo could have damaged the memory.
