thowle Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 I've been having big problems with Photoshop and Visual Studio saying it cannot read from memory, and crashing, etc. I ran the MemTest Utility, and all 9 tests completed and then I saw, lots of red :). All-in-all it had 20 errors throughout all of the tests, this leads me to beleive something is pretty wrong :) I called Alienware, and they said to call (or contact) Corsair to get replacement parts.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 28, 2005 Corsair Employee Posted July 28, 2005 Can you tell me our modules part# (How To Read the Memory Label) and the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 29, 2005 Corsair Employee Posted July 29, 2005 No problem, please let me know when you get the new modules. But I would check the MB revision you have and see if it will support you setting the Dim Voltage to 2.775 Volts and then test the modules again with http://www.memtest.org one at a time. If you dont have the Voltage adjustment the modules that you get back may need to be manually set to Cass 2.5-3-3-6 to make your system stable.

I flashed the BIOS to P34 last night, but I cant find DDR Voltage. I assume its still set at 2.0v If its possible, I'd like to send the sticks back one at a time, for this is a production box and I need to avoid downtime. Would that be possible? Here is what I can edit: SDRAM Freq.: 266MHz CPC Override: Auto SDRAM tRASmin:6 tCL:2.0 tRCD:3 tRP: 2
thowle Posted July 29, 2005 Author Posted July 29, 2005 I'm also really really really hoping that the memory is bad as hell cause In Photodraw I just started getting errors like these: There is not enough memory to complete the operation... [Where there really is like 500 MB oh physical, and 1.5GB of Virtual) The instruction at "0x5f442fa7" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read". [And well, I don't have an explanation for that one ;)]
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 29, 2005 Corsair Employee Posted July 29, 2005 If the system is passing http://www.memtest.org I would check for a Service Pack/Update for your software and or maybe try the latest version of PS.
thowle Posted July 29, 2005 Author Posted July 29, 2005 Well, right now it sure doesn't pass MemTest :) It fails!.... 20 times :)
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 30, 2005 Corsair Employee Posted July 30, 2005 Lets get your modules replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
