Espezito Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Hey! I have a pair of CMX512-3200C2PT, and one of them is bad. I would frequently get system reboots and memory errors. I tested each module and only one of them returned errors. Since I'm using these modules on a motherboard with the dual-channel option, do I need to return both modules for replacement? Here's the info: CMX512-3200C2PT XMS3202v1.2 0329082 I was pretty upset having a bad module, but Corsair's customer service makes me feel all better!
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 28, 2005 Corsair Employee Posted July 28, 2005 Can you tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
Espezito Posted July 29, 2005 Author Posted July 29, 2005 In terms of performance settings, everything is default. The CPU is not overclocked, and the dual-channel option is disabled (as this gave even worse performance than the bad module did). I am running the newest version of the ASUS AI Bios.... Other than that, like I said, everything is at it's default setting. Running the single module has resulted in 0 errors so far, but my performance is horrible! Lemme know if there's anything I need to check within the bios.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 29, 2005 Corsair Employee Posted July 29, 2005 Please load setup defaults in your bios setup and then set the Dim Voltage to 2.7X volts and set the timings manually to the tested settings at DDR333 as that is the limit with the CPU you have, and then test the module/modules one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure.
Espezito Posted July 29, 2005 Author Posted July 29, 2005 OK, loaded setup defaults in the BIOS, however, when switching my timing to be manually input, it gives me some descriptions that differ from what is offered on the site, so here's what it says, with the timings that the bios had input: DRAM CAS# Latency: 2.5 DRAM RAS# Precharge: 4 DRAM RAS to CAS Delay: 4 DRAM Precharge Delay: 8 DRAM Burst Length: 8 Also, I could not find where my voltage can be adjusted for the modules, nor could I find the timing setting for DDR333 on the site  please help, as I dont wanna mess anything up more than it is
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 30, 2005 Corsair Employee Posted July 30, 2005 Please check your user manual that came with your MB under the bios section. But normally with ASUS under Jumper Free you set AI Over clock Tuner to User Define or manual then you will be able to specify the memory frequency (DDR333) and set the Dim/DDR Reference Voltage to 2.75 Volts. Then set these timings. DRAM CAS# Latency: 2.5 DRAM RAS# Precharge: 3 DRAM RAS to CAS Delay: 3 DRAM Precharge Delay: 6 DRAM Burst Length: 8
Espezito Posted July 30, 2005 Author Posted July 30, 2005 Well I did all the things you said, and the good module tested fine, and the other one was still with the errors already! So I'm gonna send em both in for replacement. Thank you so much for the help! An idea for a sticky to add would be latency options and their translation for the different bios manufacturers. I know I had problems translating mine into the info you gave, so maybe this would help other people!
