Commander Core XT + AF140 RGB Elite: Fan curve

Hello!

Just grabbed a Commander Core XT and 4 AF140 RGB Elite to replace my clicking Aspect 14 fans in my Meshify 2 RGB case (3 front intakes and 1 back exhaust).  I will install those tomorrow.

Thr current Aspect fans are daisy chained so their speed is controled by the motherboard, so it's pretty simple.

My question is about the Commander Core XT and the temp probes.  I will place one probe near the exhaust fan, as I read it was the best place.

Do I need to set a fan curve in ICUE or does the temp probe will auto regulate the speeds?

Thanks!

You'll need to create your own custom curve.  The default "Quiet, Balanced, Extreme" settings run from CPU temp as that is the only thing each system is guaranteed to have.  However, CPU temp has little  bearing on your internal case and you definitely don't want the whole case ramping up and down when you open a browser or other program.

Cooling Tab > Yellow + bar.  A new graph will appear below.  There are some shape tools for liquid cooling in the lower right corner.  Click on one of them to create some graph points.  Liquid temp and case ambient temp have a directly relationship, so this will get you close to start.  You'll have to discover your typical "idle" case temp at the rear and then what it is at your normal use load (likely gaming with a lot GPU waste heat).  You set a nice quiet speed for the normal desktop temp and a tolerable medium speed for the peak  gaming temp.  Keep it smooth in between.

*Dont forget to change the sensor value (control variable” to the Commander XT Temp #1 (or #2 if connected there).

Thanks C, really informative and helpful.

It might be a stretch but would you have an idea for a curve for my 3-AF140 (intake) and 1-AF140 (exhaust) case fans and a 5800X3D cooled by a Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4?

And that temp probe, should I install it inside or outside the case near the exhaust?

It doesn't matter.  I'd choose the place where it's not noticeable and I usually do mine on the outside toward the wall where I can't see it.  As long as the sensor end isn't touching anything, it's OK.  When it is touching, you'll get erratic data back.  Whatever you choose, try to leave it where it is and resist the urge to keep moving it.  You'll get slightly different temperatures in different locations.  You only need a relative value for control purposes.  The actual temp you get will be environmentally dependent -- room and case heat.

Thanks again C.

Now...i'm a bit disappointed.  Before installing the Commander Core XT, ICUE was detecting my Vengeance RGB RT just fine.  Now with the Core XT installed, I can no longer control my RAM RGB.  It is showing in some menus but not in the Home page.  Plus, the new AF140 are humming like crazy under 50% RPM, which was not happening with the Fractal Aspect 14 that came with the Meshify 2 RGB.

I will find a workaround for the fans but do you have an idea on how to bring back my RAM in ICUE?

Here's what I tried so far, BTW i'm runnning the latest version 5.18.106 :

- I tried to restart and also repair ICUE, didn't work;
- I deinstalled, rebooted, reinstalled and rebooted, didn't work;
- I tried running the 3 front fans at different RPMS (50RPM and 100RPM differences), didn't work.

I'm at a loss now 😞

Well, I managed to get the RAM back up in ICUE by installing version 4 and updating to 5.  Now ICUE see everything.

Now to try and troubleshoot that damn vibration...

Yeah, I have no idea why that works.  Rolling back to CUE 4 works because the missing RAM issue is a CUE 5.18 specific bug, but there must be something in the way CUE 5  installs along side CUE 4 that bypasses the issue with the underlying service changes.  The Corsair recommended fix is below, although there is no reason for you to do it now.

I am not sure on the AF-Elite 140s.  That's one of the few fans I don't own.  There is no reason for that blade design to create extra turbulence and noise, so it would have to be the motor/bearing.  If the sound is consistent from low to high speeds, then I don't think it will be something you can change.

I read about other people having the same issue with the Meshify cases.  The way the mounting brackets are made is prone to create vibrations, which is a weird design choice.

Might be the time for a 7000D!

Make sure you take one out of the case and run it in your hand to be sure.  Some fans just happen to make the wrong frequency for some people.  Drives one person crazy, the next can't hear it at all.

Yesterday I put my hand on the case and could feel the vibration.  I'm seriously suspecting the case design, read so much about this problem with this exact case.

I think I will just leave it that way for now and replace the case soon.
