john-smith-5364
hello! i'm looking for some input regarding my Corsair SF1000L psu, because i'm worried it might not be working properly. details: - psu has been in use for a month - noticed a weird noise coming from the psu a few days ago (origin seems to be the fan bearing area) - psu fan turns on after 10-20 minutes of idle time after booting into windows - manual says fan doesn't turn on below 400w power draw (doesn't say what temperature) - maximum system wattage (according to pcpartpicker) is 395w - psu fan only turns off after shutting down the system - all temperature readings are constantly at their lows (not climbing at idle) - system is stable video (turn volume up): - os: Microsoft Windows 11 Professional (x64) Build 22631.3880 (23H2) - bios version: 19.05 (05/24/2024) - pc specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HXtZpB - psu is plugged into an APC UPS 1600VA BVX1600LI-GR idle temperatures: - motherboard: 44c - mos: 40c - cpu: 36c - room: 28c things i've tried so far: - disable all power saving features in bios and windows - balanced power plan with bios defaults - enable all power saving features in bios and windows - cpu stress test (cpu-z) none of the above made any difference is what i'm experiencing normal or is there something wrong with the psu? thank you for reading! Solution john-smith-5364 Posted July 18 Author Solution Share Posted July 18 solution: disabled xmp profile my theory: enabling xmp profile silently modifies certain bios settings (which are set to auto) which leads to higher voltages and more heat being generated
