ZAPPA
Hello to all. I'm refreshing a 2016 MINIMALIST workstation build to update some components. I have a question (Maybe more later). I have been considering the Asus ProArt Z790 Creator Wifi model. Asus issued a bios update in mid 2023 to enable the use of intel gen 14 CPUs. I have been looking at the i9 14900K, KF, or KS. (I'll figure that out later) My question is with this board, chipset, and CPU mentioned, What would be the max limits of STOCK RAM speeds possible? I don't mean Overclocked speeds, but just stock speeds within the limits of the mentioned hardware. I don't want to buy the fastest ram, only to find out my system could not natively achieve it, without have to overclock. Please help me to understand when the limit has been reached between achieving max stock speed, and where the line must be crossed into the world of overclocking. Kirederf
Hello, To answer your question.. it depends what you call "overclocking". The official supported DDR5 memory speed for 14th gen K CPUs is DDR5-5600. Anything above that is considered overclocking and not guaranteed by intel. However, the memory controller in 14th gen K series CPUs is much better. Getting an XMP-8000 kit is pushing the limit and would require some fine tuning to make it work. Getting anything between DDR5-6400 and DDR5-7200 should just work fine for a 32GB or 48GB kits. I was able to run DDR5-7600 just fine on my Asus ROG Z790 Hero and Core i9 13900KS. If you intend to run 4 sticks that a different story though.
