Bao
I recently got a new gpu and I was considering buying corsair gpu cable like this https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/pc-components-accessories/cp-8920334/premium-individually-sleeved-12-4pin-pcie-gen-5-12vhpwr-600w-cable-type-4-red-black-cp-8920334 because I have a corsair psu in the system. The gpu itself came with an adapter from 4 8pin cables to a single 16pin 12VHPWR connector on the gpu. I thought each pin cable is only 150W max and that is why you need 4 of them for 600W so how come with that cable 2 8pin connectors from the psu suddenly is enough for 600W with the corsair cable? LeDoyen
the PCIE socket on the GPU end is rated to 150w (in practice it can take a lot more). the socket on the PSU end has whatever rating the PSU manufacturer establishes. The same 8 pin sockets are used to power the CPU and that's a 300W+ cable So the 4 cables squid that comes with Nvidia GPUs is purely to conform to the ATX specification. on the modular PSU sockets, it's not covered by the spec and the manufacturer put whatever they want. Can be 2x8 pin like corsair or another 12vhpwr as other manufacturers do. TLDR it's fine 🙂
