basic lighting effects for Vengeance RGB DDR5

So, my RAM is all red, all the time unless I specifically go into iCue (version 5 on Windows 11), select Hardware Lighting, and pick a Lighting Layer. It stays until I close the app or restart my computer.

My understanding, from watching this Corsair video, is that, in order to get a new permanent default rgb effect should be as simple as selecting "Lighting Effects" and a Lighting Layer (basically same as with Hardware Lighting) BUT at this point my RAM just turns Red and stays red. It won't change no matter what I select in the Lighting Layer. I have to go over to the Hardware Lighting area to change the effect but, as stated above, that's only temporary.

I want a set and forget basic RGB effect (color wave, vertical, random colors, medium speed).

I'm hoping this is an easy solve, like I'm missing a 'commit' button somewhere.

Thanks in advance

B

The hardware lighting is the setting for when CUE is not running. When you are there making a choice, it will demonstrate the effect but that’s not a real setting for software use. Hardware lighting effects save to the RAM automatically, but you typically can see a short 1-2 second delay as the effect is written to the module.

You need to use the yellow + in Lighting Effects to add a software feature layer. It should appear immediately. If you’ve already done that, chances are you are in the middle of a rgb software tug-a-war.  You don’t have any specs listed, but stuck on red is often the MSI RGB program taking control of someone else’s RAM. You need to enter that program and restrict its ability to do so. I don’t use it, but it’s probably masquerading as a “sync all” type of function.

Thanks c-attack that's good logic - I'll investigate as you're right I do have an MSI motherboard.
