I Need Help With Making A Decision With Getting An RTX 4090.

Recommended Posts

So I've been looking into getting myself an RTX 4090 for my personal rig for gaming and productivity.  However, I just know the basis of GPUs, not the ins-and-outs of them like some people here do.  I wanted to go with a matte black theme with something that's not the FE NVIDIA model.

I really want to get a good RTX 4090 and make sure it matches with my theme.  My entire build will also include a Vertical GPU Riser so I can show it off in my Corsair 5000D airflow case.  I will also be getting an Intel Core i9-13900KS and about 10 fans for this case.  But back on topic.

Here's a list of the main GPUs I wanted to look at.  Most of them are around the MSRP of the FE model, but as someone who won't be overclocking, I don't need something like that $2K ROG model.  Please give me any pointers, advice, or user experience with these cards before I go and spend $1.6K on the right/wrong card.

Thank you in advance.

The Cards:

- PNY GeForce RTX 4090 Verto Triple Fan LED

- ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 Trinity OC

- ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition

I just want to know what the community would recommend for someone who wants a specific set theme/performance style.

Thanks again in advance for advice or reviews.

Nearly all the 4090 cards have similar performance with tiny differences attributable to small tweaks in base or boost clocks.  That is something you can easily level with any of the GPU software programs.  So aside from price, the real critical factors are going to be size (exact dimensions) and noise.  Size is self-explanatory, but make sure you can get the door on.  These things get wider and longer.  Cases don't.  GPU fan noise is more subjective, but one of the big whammies on this generation is coil whine.  If your case is close to you or generally open in design, you need to be careful with this.  Most cards will cover their coil whine at high load with their own fans.  However, if you search up 4090 & Coil Whine you will see some very specific models.  Take a listen.  Even in a closed case under a desk, I am not sure I could take some of those.

I'm the kinda guy who'd just be happy with any 4090.  I don't really care about noise and I made sure to double check if I'd have room to get a vGPU mount in there.  I might end up getting the PNY model.  Not only is it the most affordable 4090, but it's also one of the few 4090's thats actually black.  It's also one of the smallest 4090s yet.  It's like a 3 and a quater slot gpu.  Which many of them are either 3.5 or 4 slots.

Plus, my vGPU Mount, from Cooler Master, let's me adjust things on the z axis as well.  So I can move the GPU away from the glass and actually get airflow.
