iCUE Commander CORE with cpu fans and case fans

So a little bit of help. I got a H170i  and it came with the above mentionend controller. It already has 3 fans from the CPU cooler into it. Now I plan of buying a few more fans for my case, will it be ok to mix the new case fans and the CPU fans in the same controller? I assume it will controll all fans as the CPU fans (speed and what not) but anything more then that? I already have another controller that came with my corsair case but it does not have enough slots for all the fans I plan to buy.

Another thing is that I plan to mix 120 with 140. The existing ones are 140 and I plan to add 4 120 ones since that is the max for the side of the case.

The Commander Core should be able to control the speed of any PWM fan.
 

For RGB purposes, the fans need to be Corsair or spend a lot on individual adapters. 

 

You can freely mix 120 and 140mm fans. Each model has the same number of LEDs regardless of size. 
 

The fans that come with the H170i have 8 LEDs. If you choose another type with a different number of LEDs, CUE automatically will divide them into two lighting groups in the interface. Your other controller is likely a lighting node Core. That controller does not handle mixed groups as easily as the Commander Core. If you have to mix led counts, the Com Core is the one to do it on. 
 

We probably can offer more specific advice if we knew which other fan you were planning to use.

If you have the 7000X, then you also have a Commander XT in the box in addition to the Commander Core required for the H170i. There is no need to use the extra controllers from the fans, but hang on the Lighting Node Pro from the LL box. That is two extra led channels should you ever need them for additional accessories like strips, water blocks, strimmers, triangles, etc. 

 

You can add the LL to either controller for RGB purposes. Both the Com Core and Com XT will break them off into a separate group. The rear exhaust is the most likely partner since it’s by itself anyway and will not force you to break up the other banks of three.
