VS1GBKIT400 fails in memtest

When I first bought my computer, I got a VS1GBKIT400 that lasted me for well over a year. Recently, when doing some upgrades to my computer, I decided to get another kit. I seem to recall that it worked okay for a little, but starting about a month ago, my system began freezing randomly and frequently. I was busy with finals and stuff, so I didn't really take the time to diagnose it -- I just left the PC off. In any case, I've run Memtest86+ v1.55 on my sticks, and here are the results.

 

Note: ASUS states in the P4C800-E manual "For dual-channel configuration, you may:

A) install indentical DIMMs in all four sockets

or

B) install identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1 (blue sockets) and identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A2 and DIMM_B2 (black sockets)"

Works in every possible combination tested above.

 

 

I'm assuming the sticks I matched up go together because of both the sticker label and how the sticks physically look (you can see a lot more... stuff on the PCB of the first pair -- I don't know electronics that well, so no idea what to call them).

 

If there are any more tests you'd like me to run, please tell me. Otherwise, I think it's pretty safe to say that an RMA is in order.

Well your thinking is on the right track.

Getting another VSKIT to go with your first one.

However, even though they may both be VSKIT's, the IC's on each pair may be different.

Even with the XMS RAM, the Version and lot #'s must be the same.

I really don't think there is any guarantee for running 4 VS sticks.

You could try realaxing the timings.

Is it the newer one or the original?

Also are they both VS1GBKIT400 or is one VS1GBKIT400C3?

 

Have you tested the sticks individually?

 

Honestly, I don't know if it's the newer one or the original.

 

I know for a fact that they're both VS1GBKIT400; I have the newegg receipts to prove it.

 

And I already stated in the first post that I tested every single stick in every single slot (a total of 16 tests); none of them fail. It's only when the following two sticks are run in dual-channel mode that they fail memtest86+: http://img229.echo.cx/my.php?image=defective4bl.jpg

Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

 

Another problem developed with my computer that may very well have contributed to the memtest86+ errors; the fan on my PSU is dying (running at less than half its rated RPM). I'd open it up and replace the fan myself, but I don't want to void the three-year warranty that comes with it -- just in case something really catastrophic happens.

 

I submitted an RMA request with the company -- when I get the new PSU I'll run the same tests on my RAM again and report back with the results (no need to send in perfectly good RAM). Thanks for your patience and help so far.
