Memory revisions differences?

Hi,

Earlier this year I replace my old memory with the following set:

Corsair TWINX1024-3200XL DDR-DIMM 1024MB Kit w/two matched CMX512-3200XL DIMMs

This has worked great for me, but I recently decided to get another gig of the same memory. When I got it in the mail today, I noticed that the version of the memory has changed. The old memory uses 1.1, while the new has 1.2 printed on the sticks.

So my question is, are they compatible? What's the difference between those versions - how come memory revisions are upgraded so fast, with only like 3 months intervals? Is it possible to upgrade the core of a memory to a new version, like what is done with CPUs, motherboards, and graphic cards today?

Internals of memory cannot be updated. I believe the diff is the PCB used. It's never recommended to mix revisions (mainly because of the IC change), however all XLs use TCCD ICs.

What CPU do you have? Also, why do you feel you need 2 GB?

I'm using a Pentium4 3,2 ghz. I need 2 gb mainly because of games, but also because of applications such as 3ds max and photoshop. Yeah, I know it's not "recommended" to use memory with different revisions, but we're talking a small version difference here, right?
