zaselim Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 (edited) Hello, How are you? My current system is I7 6700k Asus Maximus VIII Hero Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200mhx DDR-4 16x4= 64Gb Memory Cooler master Liquid ML360R Samsung 870 Evo 500Gb x2 Adata XPG spectrix R 2Tb Seagate HDD 7200 rmp x 4 Corsair AX8600i I will be upgrading my System throughout this year and I am getting Asus Tuf RTX 4090 OC first so i wanted to ask, as the tittle suggest, will AX860i be enough for the time being. I will be upgrading everything to I9 13900k, Asus Rog Strix Z790 E-Gaming, Corsair Vengeance DDR-5 5600mhz x4, Corsair AX1600i and the first thing i will be updating after the card will be your AX1600i PSU in 3 to 4 months. So in the mean time can i use RTX 4090 with AX860i PSU? I'll really appreciate the help, thanks. Edited February 10, 2023 by zaselim
c-attack Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 It should be enough. Like most of the 4090s, it has a 450W power limit. The 6700K might at most run over 100W. So even if you allow another 100W for system resources, you are still very reasonable at 650/860W. I don’t think you can make 650W anyway. My 4080 is a 450W gpu and is paired with an overclocked 13900K and my real life loads peak in 550-600W range with a lot an extra gear and lights. You will need a multi-PCi-e 8 pin to 12VHWPR conversion cable. Don’t know if that gpu has one in the box.

Thanks for replying, My PSU doesn't have 12VHWPR conversion cable, GPU has that in-box nvidia's 4x8pin connectors to 12+4 16pin socket. I was looking into this 2x8pin to 16pin conversion cable https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/corsair-600w-pcie-5-0-psu-power-cable-cp-8920284-black/16578294 but i don't know if my PSU is compatible with it. Do you have any ideas if AX860i is compatible with this cable or not? Thanks.
LeDoyen Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 https://www.corsair.com/us/en/psu-cable-compatibility from the table, this AXi is type 3 PSU so it will work, since these 8 pin sockets on the PSU are the same pinout between type 3 and 4. It will also be compatible with the AX1600i which is type 4.
