Problem with DDR3

Hi everyone,

I bought two DDR3 RAM (Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3 1333MHz / CL9 / 1.5V / XMP) some days before. Official store nothing like Ebay, ect.

I remove old RAMs, two (Corsair XMS3 2GB DDR3 1333MHz / CL9 / 1.5V / XMP). But system did't boot.

 

After that I tried this combinations (in combination first and second slot):

(Corsair XMS3 2GB DDR3 1333MHz / CL9 / 1.5V / XMP) - let's call them RAMa and RAMb

(Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3 1333MHz / CL9 / 1.5V / XMP) - let's call them RAMc and RAMd

 

RAMa + RAMb = 4GB, ok

RAMa + RAMc = 6GB, ok

RAMa + RAMd = system didn't boot

RAMb + RAMc = 6GB, ok

RAMb + RAMd = system didn't boot

only RAMc = 4GB, ok

only RAMd = system didn't boot

 

It looked like RAMd was corrupted, so I tried CPU-Z (RAMa, RAMb, RAMc are ok, RAMd I can't tested, because system didn't boot).

Then I tried MemTest86 (boot from USB), (RAMa, RAMb, RAMc are ok, RAMd I can't tested, because MemTest for this RAMd didn't boot). Looks like RAMd is death 🙂

Tried also battery remove. Check in BIOS, but all is ok. (I have Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q8300, 2.50 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB, Win 7 home premium, supports 8GB,  motherboard supports 16GB). One more thing, RAMa, RAMb, RAMc have cirlce connector at the the side, RAMd square. Attached photo (sorry for quality). I tried to find specification for the end connector, but was not successful.

 

I think RAMd is corrupted, but I am not sure. Any ideas ?

I'm willing to bet that the memory controller has an inability to work with two different memory sizes. To verify this try only the 2GB sticks or only the two 4GB sticks. If that works then you'll have to settle for using only the two like memory modules.
