iCue Crashing and Commander Core connect and disconnect

Recommended Posts

This is driving me crazy. Have been a big supporter of Corsair products for a number of years putting them in most of the builds I do. However with iCue and issues with products, I am about burn every Corsair product I own.

Latest issue that I can not seem to resolve.

My Commander Core (the one that connects my H170i and its fans to the MB) keeps disconnecting and reconnecting, pretty much non stop, even when I have force closed iCue. No matter how many restarts, cable checks and unplug/plug back in I do, I can't stop it.

I also have the Corsair Virtuoso XT headphones, that won't work when I start my PC. I have to unplug them and then reconnect to get them to work (even through iCue and Windows both recognize them). However when I do this, it causes iCue to freeze, jumps from 600MB to 4.2GB of RAM usage. I force iCue to close and restart and that fixes the headphones, but not the other issue.

System details are:

CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K

CPU Cooler: Corsair H170i Elite LCD AIO (3 x Corsair ML fans connected to Commander Core)

Mainboard: Asus ROG Maximus z790 Hero

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO DDR5-6800

GPU: Asus ROG Strix LC RTX 3090 Ti OC Gaming

PSU: Asus ROG Thor Platinum II 1200W 80+ Platinum

SSD: Samsung 990 Pro

SSD: Samsung 980 Pro

SSD: Samsung 980 Pro

Case: Corsair 7000D Airflow

Fanx: 4 x Corsair QL Fans, 1 x Corsair ML Fan and 3 x Corsair LED strips connected to Commander Core XT

All software/firmware for iCue and all products are up to date. Windows is up to date. Bios is up to date.

I was running Aida64 to display a sensor panel in a waveshare 8.8 IPS side monitor (with corsair support unchecked) and all was working great. Then I did the latest iCue update and in true fashion, everything has broken.

Have exported the debug report which shows a lot of errors, just have no idea what they mean or which reports are useful. Is anyone able to help with this?

Doing some research and reading all the forums, its seems a lot of people have issues with Corsair and iCue and not getting any assistance.

What are my options to do away with iCue?

I pretty much only use iCue for RGB and to set the cooling profiles. I have adjusted my hardware settings for basic lighting that I am happy with, however the LCD screen on the H170i is now pretty much useless. I can barely make any changes to the settings as it keeps connecting and disconnecting so quickly that I can't do anything. I also can't make any changes to the profiles for the same reason.

Is AIDA configured to read values from the Corsair controller? Because it can and I believe that's the default.

The devices only support a single application accessing them at a time. When more than one app access them, it causes them to crash. This isn't new.

No, Aida64 is not currently linked to Corsair. I have unchecked support for all Corsair products. Did come across this in my research and has not been enabled since first built.

Yeah did see some things online about internal USB hubs that have its own power. I ordered the NZXT 4 port hub and the Corsair 4 port hub yesterday, found them both on Amazon. Some posts suggest that this still didn't help but at this point will give anything a go.

Corsair

CORSAIR Internal 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub - 4X 9-Pin USB 2.0 Ports - Easy Magnetic Installation - Compatible with Most Intel® and AMD® Motherboards - Black : Amazon.com.au: Computers

Oh damn, didn't want to hear that. Looks like I will never sort this issue then, going from online forums

Playing around with software and hardware yesterday and now for the past 2 days I have not had this issue. Everything is running perfectly.

Aida64 sensor panel is running. H170i is connected and appears to be running as it should. No disconnects at all. No idea what I did or what might have fixed the issue, but fingers crossed.

I do notice now that my iCue using over 800MB of RAM running in the background. Seems excessive. What should it be using? How much is it using for others?

Spoke too soon. Issue reappeared while doing nothing, PC just sitting at home screen.

Had a look at USBView to see if I could tell anything there. Does show an error for the Commander Core (Port 4) when it disconnects and not in iCue.

Well system has really cracked it with the AIO Commander Core now. Bascially now not letting it function at all. Can see it connected but can't install drivers, can't uninstall and reinstall. Only thing that I can do is unplug and plug back in again, but ends up coming up like this again after a short period.

Over a week so far and no response from Corsair Support. Not sure if I return under warranty or keep trying. Fans and pump are working it appears.

Update No...actually lost count

Well reached out to amazon who I bought the H170i from back in Nov/Dec advising having issues, that Corsair support was useless and I was getting no where. Advised that item was past its return date and they asked I confirm which product. Advised them it was the H170i

Amazon support without asking for further details, provide screenshots or evidence or explain the issues, said they would refund the cost and send me an email with the details to return the defective product. Apparently this happens a lot with Corsair products.

I asked instead of refunding, if they could simply replace. Next minute, received an email advising my order for a new H170i has been processed and would ship tomorrow. Requested if I could post my H170i by end of Feb. New one will be here prior to that, so no down time for PC.

If nothing else, as least I will know if it is a software issue or was a faulty Commander Core.

Seems like you are one of many, Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix 360mm ARGB AIO Liquid CPU Cooler is what I am running, if I delete the ICUE software the issue goes away and it seems to run via default settings this is with Intel, I will be removing it and going for a refund

I fixed the issue by uninstalling iCUE, removing the H150 Elite and buying an NZXT Z73. Never been happier. Bye Corsair.

It's not your Commander. I have 3 of them here and switched them around, same problem.
