SP120 RGB Elite with ML RGB Series PWM fans?

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, i have had a quick  search and haven't really found the answer.

Anyway, my wife got me some SP120 RGB Elite fans (3 with the node core). Before i install them i want to make my whole case Corsair fans and i am looking at getting an AIO to match. The problem i can't find an RGB AIO that comes with the SP120, the only ones i can find that is what i need are the CORSAIR ICUE H100I ELITE CAPELLIX RGB 240MM AIO that come with ML120 RGB Magnetic Levitation PWM. My question is, can i use these 2 sets of fans together? will i need to use 2 separate nodes? I'm new to Corsair RGB fans as i have a normal set of RGB fans that came with my case. Any help would be wonderful. I am open to maybe using different AIO is some are better for me, any suggestions would be wonderful. If you could also use layman's terms that would be wonderful 🤣.

Thanks in advance.

SP Elite, ML-Elite, and SP-Pro (DC motor) all fall under the title of “8 LED fan”. This is way at the bottom of the list in your lighting setup. This also includes the ML-Elite OEM fan from the Elite Capellix series.

Something odd happened with your text above, but I’ll make some guesses and we’ll go from there.

1) If you have an Elite Capellix AIO and thus a Commander Core, just plug the new fans in on both the PWM and RGB side. Those fans are all 8 LEDs and the Com Core automatically detects fan type each boot. Simply turn it on and good to go.  The SP-Elite were made to be the case partner to the ML-Elite radiator fans.

2) If you are now over 6 fans and need a second RGB controller, we can figure that out. Use one of the Lighting Node Core controllers. If the other fans are all 8 led, it won’t matter but you will need to manually set up the new controller in cue as “8 led fan series x number of fans”.

3) You have the older ML-RGB fan type with 4 LEDs. This can still work fairly easily. You could use two separate controllers, but for this combo I don’t think you need to. On a Commander Core or XT, just plug them all in and done. Those two auto detect. For all other controllers, put the new SP Elite as fans 1-3 on the RGB side, then the remaining ML-RGB 4 led fans as 4-6. In the Lighting Set up tell it “8 led fan series x 5”. This will generate 5 fans in the UI as 8-8-8-8-8. The first 3 will be accurate, then the 4 led fans will be half of the next 2 8 led fans. Moving effects will appear to speed up as they move through the 4 led sections, but otherwise this works for most effects.

Sorry about the text above, it may be where i copied and pasted it from another site.

So what you are saying is if i purchase this https://www.box.co.uk/CW-9060046-WW-Corsair-iCue-H100i-Elite-Capellix-RGB-24_3098171.html

Then these https://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/p/Corsair-iCUE-SP120-Elite-RGB-PWM-fan-3-pack-inclRGB-controller-120mm-black_75518.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAtbqdBhDvARIsAGYnXBOPB2yzYgRZn1yq-9Ke2MytfKQbroFIAHkdO1OlB967pcdS6wEtIoUaAj2_EALw_wcB

Will work with them? just plug and play?

I have the sp120 elite pack of 3 fans and i would get 2 fans from the h100i Elite Capellix so that would make just the 5 fans and i would add another 1 later on.

Thank for the quick reply.

Correct. All of this stuff will run from the Commander Core in the AIO kit. Fan speed and RGB control. Just plug and play. 6th fan can be added whenever. No special preparation. You won’t need the lighting controller from the SP pack. Save it for future use.

RGB wise these fans are all identical in configuration and color tone. However, the ML-Elite have a higher max speed intended for radiator duty and the SP-Elite have a lower max more appropriate for case fans. Since they are all PWM controlling the speed individually is not an issue.  Also note when buying fan #6, the ML-Elite retail is not exactly the same as the AIO version. LED and fan blades are the same but it has a fancier frame than the SP-Elite and AIO fans and it won’t look exactly the same -- if this matters. The SP-Elite and ML-Elite OEM AIO fans have the same frame.

That was all fine thank you, i have just added a 6th fan and it seems to be working and picked up by icue when looking at the coolings tab but its not showing up in the rgb tab so its just running with no light. Any ideas on what could be the problem? Its all plugged in properly and its the same fan as 3 of the other working fans so i’m not sure whats wrong?

Go to the lighting effects tab and look in the lower left corner for the Set-up Wizard.  It may have a slightly different name now.  The Commander Core and Commander XT have this auto-detect protocol for RGB and PWM, so it will shut down the port when not in use.  If you are still having trouble, do a full PC shutdown and then flip the PSU off for 30 seconds.  Flip it back on and start up normally.  That should force the Com Core to do a full check.
