HS80 wireless breaks FaceTime on macOS Ventura

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I purchased the HS80 RGB Wireless a few months ago, and everything was working alright; however, ever since upgrading to macOS Ventura, all FaceTime calls fail if I have the headset selected as the output device. This issue occurs on both Intel & ARM based Macs. Has anyone else ran into this issue, and if so, have you found a solution? I noticed that in iCUE ,my SLIPSTREAM receiver is stuck at a polling rate of 800 Hz with no option to change it. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, as I rely on the FaceTime app on macOS very frequently.

We are aware of the issue and will be rolling out a future iCUE update that will resolve the problem. Removing iCUE is the only fix to the problem for now, if you wish to do so.

Got it; thank you so much. Unfortunately, the mic volume without iCUE is way too quiet. Is there a way to apply the additional +10 dB without iCUE installed?

Refer to this other thread for some workarounds. Why the mic volume gets so low is just bizarre. It has to be a QC issue of the mics being supplied to them.

Noted; I had to go with a third party application to address the mic being way too quiet, and while its a functional solution, it definitely feels a bit clunky. As for iCUE, I found a workaround that still lets me use the application for things like adjusting settings on my IRONCLAW RGB Wireless mouse, as well as the lighting effects on my HS80. The big catch, is that no audio settings can be adjusted, as I simply extracted the main iCUE.app bundle from the installation package. This was done to avoid the installation of Corsair's audio drivers, as those seem to be what's breaking FaceTime, and I think I found out the reason as to why that happens.

If you open the Audio MIDI Application, the headset will appear as having 2 output channels, but if you install iCUE using the pkg installer, which also loads the audio driver, Audio MIDI Setup will show the device as having 8 output channels (even if you have the virtual surround disabled in iCUE). I suspect that this is what causes FaceTime calls to always fail; so, if it is possible to have iCUE report the headset as having only 2 output channels when virtual surround is disabled, that would probably solve the problem.

I went with the trial for CASTER, and while it worked well, I shouldn't have to pay for additional software just to make my headset function properly. As of right now, iCUE is still broken on Ventura
