magic_carpet
Hi guys, I have an Asus z690 MB with a i9 13900K. I'd like to buy a DDR5 DOMINATOR kit (16*2) above z690 specs (7000 MHz or higher). Do you confirm they are compatible or could I experience some problems, due to z690 chipset? magic_carpet
At the moment I have an Asus ROG STRIX Z690-E with a Dominator DDR5 5600 (16*2) kit. I'd like to upgrade with a 7000 MHz kit or higher.
c-attack
That might be reaching a bit high. While the Raptor Lake CPUs are improved on the IMC, the motherboard is still first edition Z690. There were some very clear limits and the best boards stopped firmly in the mid 6000 range.

Thanks, I thought the frequency depended on the IMC of the CPU. In this case, I think I will try a 6600 MHz kit. In the worst case, do you think I can use it at 6400 MHz with more relaxed timings, such as 32 instead of tested 34 CL? c-attack
The 13900k will help, but I think the board is the limiting factor. 6600 seems like a reasonable target and as long as you are willing to set timings yourself (primary and a few secondary) you can find the best target. The XMP values are only key if you need it to be one click set and don’t want to fiddle around. I would find the best timings or value kit you can in that 6200-6600 range. Not too many 6400 kits out there, but 6200 will surely go up. For comparison I am using a Dominator 6000C36 kit on Z790 Hero and 13900K. I experimented for weeks, but ultimately I can run 6400 32-36-36-76 comfortably while 6600 was balanced on the razor’s edge. There’s no reason to stretch for the extra 200 is it isn’t there. This one is probably RAM limited and you need the new batch DDR5 to go for 7000+. I’d say scan the Asus forums to see if any using the new RAM on Z690 but they appear to be down still. You might also look for the usual Asus Z690 motherboard thread on overclock.net to see if anyone was successful.

Maybe this can helps. At which voltage you run your 6400 32CL?
c-attack
The motherboard trace layout and PCB thickness are influential, but sometimes things don't turn out as planned. A lot of Asus Z690 Apex owners were profoundly disappointed their master overlocking board was less capable than a Hero. For 6400 C32 I need 1.375v. The original XMP spec is 6000 36-38-38-76 1.25v
