cjpark
I have a Soltek Qbic 3401-pro barebone (mobo is SL-B8E-FGR) with a P4 3.0C. I recently got 2x512mb 3200LLPT sticks that wouldn't POST at ddr400 speeds with any timings. So I got rid of those and now my problem is that my 2x512mb 3200XLPTv1.1 sticks won't POST if I change the timings away from SPD. Any suggestions? I'm starting to get the impression that I should stay away from Corsair ram for my system. Any help would be appreciated.
CandyKid
It would appear that your system doesn't have much support for aggressive memory modules. I would suggest going with either the Value Select or System Select modules instead! However, if you can do so, please try changing the VDimm voltage to at least 2.75 volts. In my own experience, the 3200XL modules needed 2.8 volts to run 2-2-2-5 in dual-channel. This may be a contributing factor as your chipset probably needs the extra juice as well! cjpark
the problem with them not running cas2 is just a bios problem. I've talked to soltek about it already, they sent me a beta bios that let me run ram at cas2 but it caused my onboard gigabit lan to stop working so I went back to the old one. I've tried giving them 2.8V and running at looser timings but still no post so no overclocking with this ram.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 15, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 15, 2005 Sounds like they are working on it, I would give them a few weeks to resolve it.
cjpark
Actually when I asked if they planned on fixing that issue with the beta bios, they said they had no plans on making a public release with the timing fix and weren't really sure why the lan stopped working so I'm not holding out any hope of a fix in the near future. I got the beta bios from them a couple months ago, nothing new since then.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 15, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 15, 2005 I am not sure what too tell you. I would be happy to replace the modules, but it sounds like the modules are not the issue.
cjpark
Alright, well thanks anyway. Really just wanted to see if you'd heard of anything like this before or had a fix. I guess I'll just live with the spd timings for now.
CandyKid
Sorry to hear that, but yes, we have heard things like this before. Manufacturers who's primary business is not based on high-end performance don't seem to care very much about adding support for it (I.E. aggressive modules) because they won't get much return from the effort. It makes sense in a business minded way, but is still annoying. PLUR CK
