667 memory detected as 533 by Asus P5WD2 board

I purchase Corsair TWIN2X1024-5400C4 1GB DDR2-667 XMS2-5400 Xtreme

Performance Memory for use in an Asus P5WD2 board. However, during the POST the memory is detected by the BIOS as: 1 Gb of PC2 - 4300, which to my knowledge is the slower, 533MHz memory.

I expected PC2-5400 (667MHz) memory. What am I missing?

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forums, longshot!

This is because most mainboards will default to DDR533 unless you manually set it faster and overclock your system. This is for compatibility issues, etc.

Your mainboard's manual is actually pretty good and if you read through the Ai Overclocking section, will walk you through how to set your memory/FSB/CPU to run faster. I think with that board, you should have no problems running the memory at DDR667, especially if you have a 3.4GHz CPU or faster.
