Faulty RAM, need some help please!

I am having lots of various BSOD, re-boots, and flakey behavior on my new system. Debug of memory.dmp file's done by Microsoft seems to point to faulty RAM. System will re-boot or BSOD when opening random applications or games of any kind. Microsoft RAM test is coming back suspect of RAM issuesas well. I have not pulled the sticks out independent of one another to test as of yet!

I am crippled without this system and need some help ASAP! :)

System spec's:

Windows XP Pro SP2

ECS 848-PA MOBO w/Intel 3.0GHZ HT L2 Proc

Nvidia GeForce FX 5200

Maxtor 160GB HDD

Corsair RAM (Part# VS1GBKIT400), 2x512MB (matched pair), DDR400/PC3200

Please test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts as well. If you do find one failing then lets get it or them replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

However; if you get errors with both modules, that would suggest some other problem. And I would try testing the memory in another system to be sure.

Unfortunately my only voltage options are 2.5 or 3, so I left this at 2.5-3-3-8.

I tested both modules by themselves in both slots and got no errors using memtest + v.1.55. However, using memtest again with both sticks in the machine I got 57 errors on Test 5!!?? I unfortunately do not have another system at this time to test the RAM in. Could it be that these are not truly a "matched pair"? The retail chain I bought these from will not allow me to return them, so if it is determined that the RAM needs to be replaced; it will have to be done with corsair directly.

Please let me know how to proceed or what if any other tests/settings you wold like for me to look at.

thx

That would suggest some other problem. And I think you may be looking at the timings not the voltage. The Dim Voltage will normally be where you set the CPU speed and Voltage. "Frequency and Voltage Control"

When you say "that would suggest some other problem", what exactly do you mean? I will re-check the voltage settings again this evening to try and set this to 2.7 . Would you recommend that the voltage be set to 2.7 as a best practice, or is this strictly for testing? In trying to understand this issue better, why would the RAM fail when paired when running the memtest?

If both modules pass one up but you get errors when in dual channel mode that would suggest the errors are not from the memory. Most likely casue would be a power issue, or lack of power may cause that as well as a noisy PSU. Also a failing memory controller can cause this as well.

Ok, so here's the scoop. Took both sticks of RAM and tested them in another machine over the weekend at a friends house. This is a brand new machine which runs prefectly. I installed my RAM and ran memtest against it. In testing on this machine, I not only got the same but more test failures. Voltage settings were set to both 2.5 & 2.7 and the test failures were the same. The sticks of RAM were swapped and tested in all slots available and the errors still continued. I would like to at this time have the RAM replaced as I believe it to be defective. Please let me know how to proceed in moving forward!

Thanks!
