Matching ram sets.

Recommended Posts

Hi I’m wanting to upgrade my ram from 16gb to 32, I know I just can’t add a second set to what I have, I need 4 matched sticks, but Best Buy only sells the ram I need in sets of 4, only in sets of 2 Corsair rgb pro sticks. Is there a way to buy 2 sets of 4 and match them? Is there a bin number I can check? Best Buy owes me 200 dollars that I can use, but it’s in the form of a gift card I have to use there, so I can’t just buy 4 matched from Corsair directly.

1) Try for the same model number.  Double check the XMP timings are the same.  This is a secondary check against a different IC with the same model number.

2) If you are physically at Best Buy see if you can match the version # on the RAM to what you have.  Typically it is numbers like 3.14, 4.25, 5.35, etc.

3) If you succeed on 1 and 2, you have a pretty good shot and it means the RAM is probably going to be the same IC and quality.  If you can't get 1 and 2, your odds of success go down quite a bit and you need to make sure you have good return options.

I’m just going to replace the 2 sticks of 8gb each with 4 new sticks of 8gb, but Best Buy only sells sets of 2 so I’ll have to get two sets of matched sticks, if I find 2 matched sets with the same series numbers.
