Feynstructure
Hi Ram Guy. I'm running a SOYO KT600 Dragon Ultra Platinum mobo with three sticks of VS512MB400 ram. When I use memtest on each stick individually, I get no errors regardless of which slot I use. I don't get any errors when I run two sticks at the same time either. However, when I insert all three sticks, I get errors on test #5 and #7, always in slot one (or at least this is what I think because the MB number beside each error is always below 512MB). With three sticks in, I do get random crashes and bluescreens. Thanks for your help!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 7, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 7, 2005 With more than one module you may need to run the memory at DDR266 or DDR333 according to the chipset specification. What are the settings and CPU speed you are running them at?
Feynstructure
I'm running an AMD XP 3200+ CPU at that speed (actually 2200 Mhz). I'm not super computer savy, so what do you mean by other settings? I did try testing all my modules at DDR333, and that took care of the memtest errors! However, is there any way to still run my ram at 400? My mobo manual doesn't make any mention of slowing the ram down to use all three slots. Thanks again for your help! Feynstructure
Oh, I should also mention that I tried testing my stability last night with good old Counter-Strike. My computer would soon crash at DDR400, even when using ram configurations that gave me no errors in memtest! The game didn't crash at DDR333. How much of a performance cut am I taking by settling for 333? I occassionally like to play games, but I'm more concerned with memory intensive computation, analysis, and simulations. Thanks!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 7, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 7, 2005 You would need to talk to the MB maker about that, but the VIA chipset does suggest DDR266 with more than 3 ranks of memory and all 512 Meg modules are double ranked. I would try and run the system with the memory at DDR333 and set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts as well.
Feynstructure
When I up the voltage to 2.8, the system does not boot fully to windows (either restarts automatically or gives me a blue screen with errors). However, even running at DDR333 and 2.7V, my computer occasionally crashes (black screen as if I disconnected my computer from the monitor). Thanks again for your help! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 8, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 8, 2005 Can you test them in another system? If not I have no problem replacing them, but normally that type of issue is not the memory. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
