Reseller requesting help

Hi,

We're a computer reseller in CA. We have a compatibility issue with the Corsair Platinum Series TwinX CMX512-3200LLPT XMS3205v1.2 modules and the Shuttle Barebones XPC SS58G2 system.

With the Corsair module(s) installed, the system will not POST. With a low-end Ampo memory module the system is solid. Also confirmed the Corsair RAM to work perfectly in singles or pair in another test system w/ Abit motherboard. There is no indication that these are registered modules. Additionally, the customer's original computer was a Shuttle Barebones (older) model that these exact same modules came out of and worked perfectly in, so we are stumped.

Contacted Shuttle Tech Support and they were unable to help. We are turning to this forum as a last resort. Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.

With this system having a proprietary MOBO, how limited is the BIOS?

Are the timings and frequency adjustable?

Also what is the default Dimm voltage, and can this be adjusted?

This is what Corsair recommends as compatible RAM.

Sorry, could'nt link the exact page.

Anyway, it's System Select RAM.

The CAS Latency can be changed to 2, 2.5, and 3T. The RAS timing settings are all adjustable as well. The RAM voltage can be set to Auto, 2.70, 2.80, or 2.90V. It looks like the RAM's frequency ratio could be changed, too.

The link you provided doesn't list the new SS58G2, by the way. This is a fairly new model from Shuttle that has the LGA775 socket in it.

Any suggestions?

If the modules pass http://www.memtest.org in another system then its likley a bios update that may be needed. Especially if this is a new MB or system.

But I would try and manually set the timings to the following and test the modules one at a time.

Memory Frequency: 100%

Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts

Resulting Frequency: 1-1 with the CPU Freq.

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T

An update for you:

Tried the setting you suggested, but still no go with the Corsair RAM.

Oddly enough, if one clears the CMOS on the motherboard, the system will POST with the Corsair RAM installed. However, simply exitting the BIOS setup at that point (without even changing anything) will cause the non-POST condition to return.

This is clearly a BIOS issue with the Shuttle unit. Thanks for your suggestions anyway.
