RMA request

Recommended Posts

Hi Ram Guy. So Ive had this memory(TWINX pc3200 XMS 512x2) for a couple months now, after RMAing once with the retailer when my previous sticks produced memtest errors. The new sticks run memtest without errors so long as the timings are exactly 2-2-2-5. Herein lies my problem.

I still get BSOD's and "memory could not be read" errors while gaming. The only games I play currently are CounterStrike:Source and World of Warcraft, both of which suffer from said errors and BSOD's. The stop errors I am getting vary, everywhere from 8E errors to nv4disp.dll errors. Ive tested my vidcard in another computer and it tested fine. I've RMA'd my mobo thinking that it could've been a bad memory controller, and even RMA'd my CPU so as to start from scratch with all new components the 2nd time around. After much reading and testing however, I am still unable to pinpoint the problem.

A couple of things I would like to know ..

1. Is there any known compatibility issues with the DFI Lanparty 875P-T mobo?

2. Do you test all memory that is RMA'd?

3. Do you test all the replacements that are sent out?

Tell me what it is you would have me do, but I can think of nothing else here that could be the culprit. Any and all help/advice is appreciated. If you got a question.. feel free to ask it... that goes for everyone. Thanks.

Can you tell me our modules part# (How To Read the Memory Label) and the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

1. Is there any known compatibility issues with the DFI Lanparty 875P-T mobo?

A: No In fact we use this model on our production line as well as a few other MB's

2. Do you test all memory that is RMA'd?

A: Yes; and all RMA's sent to us are replaced with new modules!

3. Do you test all the replacements that are sent out?

A: Yes see previous question.

First off, thanks for the speedy reply. I really want to get this solved before Battlefield 2 comes out (sad isnt it?). Here are the Memory specs.

Part # CMX512-3200XL

Version # 1.2

Lot # 0505109-1

(edit: oops almost forgot the CPU specs)

P4 550 (3.4ghz LGA775) 800Mhz FSB

Im glad to hear that there is no compatibility problems with this mobo and that someone there might be familiar with it. The documentation for this mobo is practically worthless and there seem to be a few more bells and whistles than I bargained for. In short, Ill post the CPU bios settings you requested and also some bios settings I have no understanding of.. perhaps you can shed some light on the subject...

CPU L1 & L2 Cache: ENABLED

(System Bios Cacheable: ENABLED;Video Bios Cacheable: DISABLED)

CPU Clock Ratio: ENABLED

CPU Clock: 200 MHz

Async AGP/PCI Clock: 66/33 MHz

Auto Detect PCI Clock: ENABLED

Spread Spectrum: -0.50%

CPU Voltage Control: 1.3875 V

DIMM Voltage Control: 2.7 V

CAS Latency Time: 2

Active to Precharge Delay: 5

DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay: 2

Dram RAS# Precharge: 2

Memory Frequency for DDR400

??

Memory Hole at 15M-16M: DISABLED

????

CPC Addr/Control: AUTO

Fast Chip Select: AUTO

Selective CPC: AUTO

Soft Patch Mode: AUTO

Im also glad to hear that you test all RMA'd RAM as well as their new counterparts. One way or the other... I should be able to get to the bottom of this problem. ROCK ON! and thanks again.

Please test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts and just let the bios set the timings as well. If you do find one failing then lets get it or them replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

However; if you get errors with both modules, that would suggest some other problem. And I would try testing the memory in another system to be sure.

When I set the bios to Define Timings by SPD it changes the timings to 2.5-2-2-5. Should I be able to run these timings at 2.8v? Or should I increase the DIMM voltage and leave the timings manually set to their rated speed of 2-2-2-5?

I sent in a RMA request last night. I am really hoping that I get my RMA number soon, because I am leaving town today until the the 20th. I had planned on getting it out before I left so that my computer would only be down for a period of time when I wouldnt be needing or using it. If there is anything you can do to help speed up my RMA request I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks again for the help. Ill let you know how the replacements turn out.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey Ramguy...

I am currently out of town and the person housesitting for me has not yet recieved my replacement modules. Could you please tell me the status of the shipment, the tracking # or the RMA. I dont have access to my e-mail where I am and am unable to get my information to further pursue this. If you would rather send that information to me via private message, so be it. Its been about a week and a half since i mailed them out, and the fact that they havent shown up yet has me a bit worried. Packages occasionaly "disappear" from my porch and I want to make sure that hasnt or doesnt happen with these. Thanks again. ROCK ON CORSAIR!!!

Edit* Ok.. I found my RMA # in my gmail account (thank god for google mail) Ill give the RMA dept. a call tomorrow and try to get this squared away.

I dont have access to RMA's data base, but I can check and see if it was recieved, but I would need the RMA#. However, if you have the RMA# I would suggest you call them at 888-222-4346 and dial "0" that will take you right to them.

Ramguy-

So the RMA replacements stick finally showed up :D: However... 1 of the sticks is generating errors in Memtest :(:. I must tell you that Ive never had a problem like this with Corsair memory in the past, but this is very aggravating. I havent been able to use my PC since I put it together around Dec/Jan for much other than word processing. I cant go another 10 days without my computer, so please tell me who to contact to recieve an advance RMA. Perhaps this particular error means that something else is wrong. Ive attached an image of the error.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT* OK... I reseated the RAM (popped it out and popped it back in) and its now to test 6 without any errors. Ill let it run a couple of passes reset and try again. Then move on to testing both in single channel then dual channel.

Followup* Well this time it generated the error in test 6 but at the same address.

And please set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts as well if you have not done so.

Dimm Voltage is set to 2.8v

One stick is passing the other is getting errors. When run together in Dual channel they are receiving errors.

Error address

00003768708 - 115.5MB in Dual channel

Also worth mentioning is the fact that my system hasnt suffered from any BSOD's. As previously mentioned they were quite frequent and easily replicated by simply starting up any game. Instead I am getting random pausing or stuttering. So +1 for the new RAM fixing my BSOD's but -1 for not working.
