Some FAN effects do not work properly due to the orientation (intake, exhaust) of the FANs and lack of iCUE settings

Hi there,

I'm using six 8-LED-FANs to cool my case - three as intake, three as exhaust.

The transition of effects like infinity isn't working properly from intake to exhaust due to the nature of possibilities to set up the FANs in iCUE. Even though rotation is implemented in settings there's a need to be able to "flip" fans around, otherwise the transition will visually fail.

I've read some threads about this issue which are already two years old. Is there a way to set this up I'm not able to find or is iCUE lacking this functionality?

Please let me know - thanks!

PS: Just to make sure that you'll understand me correctly.

Infinity is working (and should work) like this:

  • Exhause 1: Left
  • Exhaust 2: Right
  • Exhaust 3: Left
  • Intake 3: Left (should be right as a proper transition of the effect)
  • Intakt 2: Right (should be left as a proper transition of the effect)
  • Intake 1: Left (should be right as a proper transition of the effect)

You can control origin point with fan rotation to prevent the effect from starting on the wrong side of the fan, but you cannot control lighting directional path (clockwise vs counter-clockwise) on a per fan basis. Infinity is the only effect where this clearly presents itself because of the one sided nature of the effect. At the front/top junction there will always be “two rights or two lefts” in a row when the fans are facing different directions. In order to resolve that you would need the ability to change rotation direction per fan.

Thanks for you reply. To wrap it up: If iCUE would allow setting up the FAN rotation and the FAN orientation (intake, exhaust) in the FAN configuration wizard the issue would be sorted out. In the current state of iCUE it's not possible to fix this.

How can I add this request to the official roadmap for future updates? The effort to implement this shouldn't be huge and it makes sense for proper lighting setup in many systems.

Please let me know - thanks!

This the place and you are not the first to comment on the issue with the Infinity effect. I don’t know how easy/difficult it would be to add rotational directional control per fan across the entire program.

It's not only about the infinity effect. Every rotational effect, let it be spiral rainbow for example, is affected. It's just not as obvious as with infinity.

Due to the nature that the implementation would be adding a FANs orientation (flip of 180° on the vertical axis) an inversion of the existing lighting effects shouldn't be a challenge, it's just a mathematical calculation. The rotational setting which is present today is already doing this, but for another axis.

If this is the right place to ask for feature requests and people already asked for this in the past - how can I make sure the developers will see this thread/saw the others and make sure the feature is at least being discussed internally? The development of iCUE and its features on the roadmap is a complete black box. Just hoping for somebody from Corsair to see this and maybe putting it on a list for future development of features without any type of confirmation or reply is not satisfying at all.
