Problem with 2gb 3200xl

Recommended Posts

Ive just recently upgraded to a sli rig using the ASUS A8n SlI Deluxe motherboard.

I was using 1g of 3200xl pro modules and decided to buy an extra pair to make 2g.

However afyer installing i found the memory was running at 333 so i changed in the bios to 400. And increased the voltage to 2.85. But after installing windows my computer was freezing randomly. I have took the new modules out and all works fine now. Could you please advise me on any solutions you have to sort the problems out please.

Many Thanks

When running 4 sticks the MOBO will default the RAM speed to 333.

This is a limitation of the memory controller on the CPU itself.

It's either 1GB @ 400 or 2GB @ 333MHz.

Only way around this is using 2 1GB sticks.

Ifi ran at 333 would that change the procesor speed.

Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings;

TwinX512 or TwinX1024-3200XL

Advanced/Jumper Free

AI over clocking: Manual

CPU Freq: 200

DRAM Clock: 400 MHz

Memory or Dim Reference voltage: 2.75 Volts

System performance: Standard

Advanced/CPU/Memory or DRAM Configuration

Memclock Model: Limit

Memclock value/ratio: DDR 400MHz

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T

1T/2T Memory Timing: Auto or 2T

All other settings should be set to default settings!

Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!
