RAM lighting effects not responding to commands in iCue

Recommended Posts

In iCue my RAM does not react to changes I make in lighting effects. In hardware lighting it works fine. Everything else works mostly fine in lighting effects besides the RAM. It will start on a random color when iCue loads after bootup and then I have no control over it in lighting effects, so any kind of lighting link mode will not work. It's been like this for months. I was hoping an update would eventually fix it, but iCue has updated many times and I still have this problem. Also worth noting, I have a Asus motherboard working correctly in iCue which required armory crate (asus rgb software), but after initially linking, it does not operate.

Got the same issue - A firmware force update seems to fix it but upon reboot, back to the same issue.

The old Icue software I had on worked fine but it didn't see my commander core (came with the case I got) so I've had to install the latest one for that to work. It appears that this version of Icue has a bug of somesort.

DDR4 RGB Vengeance Pro.

Side note - I have blank Vengeance pros as well and they're suffering from the same issue. Definitely software related.

I have the same ram sticks and they work fine.

which icue version are you using?

Often when just the RAM is not behaving, the motherboard RGB software has a hand in.  This is less common with Asus, but try disabling "plugins" from the CUE general settings and then restart the Service and app.  This will sever the connection between CUE and Armory Crate.

I think you might have been onto something there - Just had to update my Asus armoury crate software. During the update, I assume, the software knocks itself off and the RGB ram sticks came back to life. Naughty naughty Asus.

Just started the program and what you know, the RAM is now colour cycling.. in a different colour XD Time to disable the crate. Thank you very much for your help.

I do have a separate issue - My keyboard starts up dark until I press the light button (same again, didn't do this until the new software) but that's something I can live with. K95 RGB Platinum XT in case you're wondering what keyboard I have.

Can't edit my original post - In order to disable the Crate Software, you need to go to the services part and disable it from there. There's no option to stop it from start up.

To get to services, press the search button on windows start bar and type the word services and it should be near the top.

Right click it and go to properties.

Click startup type and scroll to disabled.

Press apply.

Press ok

Close it down and restart.

Jobs a good one!

You can disable Armory Crate from its side, but that will prevent any CUE control over Asus MBs, GPU, etc. CUE uses an Asus written plugin to piggy back on armory Crate to do this. However, you also can break the connection by disabling it on the CUE side. For investigative purposes this is a lot easier than trying to scrape AC out of all the cracks, redownloading the entire AC package and reinstalling.

The K95 XT or any other KB should light up at power on, drop to dark for a few seconds during the BIOS boot, then resume your saved hardware lighting after initialization. Software lighting effects won’t come on until CUE loads which is typical 10-30 seconds after the OS comes up.

Check the CUE level brightness setting for the KB. It may be in the off (left) position and it’s loading up that way. Another possibility is there is some thing wrong with the hardware lighting saved to the board. You should have 5 default effects saved their. Press the profile button above F2 when cue is not running to cycle through them.

iCue and the ram are both up to date. I think it's a conflict with the motherboard.

Thanks, this works. But like you said, I have to do it every time I boot up, or after it goes into sleep mode. At least the option is there.

Thanks for the insight. The motherboard is definitely conflicting, but unfortunately when I disable plugins I lose control of the motherboard RGB and I would have to control it from amory crate, so id rather force update the RAM or use hardware lighting. I sent a trouble ticket to corsair, maybe they will fix it in a update eventually.

im not sure if a real fix has been found yet but i just found a fix which has been working for a while with no issues. i was experiencing word for word same symptoms as OP for months so i spent all morning messing with ICUE settings.

in ICUE settings go

Settings

Software and Games

in the little drop menu on the right side -> devices

look for your ram and disable " Software " i still have " games " enabled

i can now use lighting effects tab instead of hardware tab and the setting actually stays. I have been running this through reboots and tests, no problems yet.

THANK YOU!! i just got new Vengeance RGB Pro and the lighting effects tab did absolutely nothing, your fix worked. I hope there's a real fix soon but great workaround in the meantime, you're a lifesaver ❤️ made an account just to thank you

I can confirm that Gigabyte's RGB Fusion was to blame for the "Lighting Effects" not responding to changes, but the "Hardware Lighting" was still functioning normally.  I toggled the "Software Integrations" off in Settings and regained functionality with the "Lighting Effects" option for my two DIMMs which are the Corsair Dominator 5600s.

Yeah, I'm having the same issue. Decided to just set up hardware lighting and uninstall iCue. That way I don't need to force firmware update after every reboot, plus when I force updated firmware, it only fixed one of my ram cards, not both.
