tacoloco
Hello, I recently built a PC using the Corsair 5000D Airflow case. The case comes with 2 PWM fans included, attached to the fan hub. I added 4 more fans and accidentally purchased regular DC (3 pin) fans - ARCTIC P12. I plugged these into the fan hub and they work, but they’re too audible. Can I reduce their speed and hopefully make them more quiet? My understanding with DC fans is that i can reduce their speed, but i have to apply the same changes to all fans - is this correct? Since the 6 fans (2 PWM and 4 DC) are all attached to the fan hub, can i reduce their speed via BIOS or specific software? Would they need to be attached directly to the MOBO to use BIOS? Thanks!!! DC fans alter their speed by raising/lowering that voltage. You'll need to move those to the MB to regain speed control.
tacoloco
thanks for your response. So if i moved the DC fans to the FAN header on the MOBO and used a splitter for the 3 pin fans, i could control the fans via BIOS?
c-attack
Yes, they should be controllable through the bios fan settings. Most motherboard fan headers are dual DC/PWM with auto-detect switching. However, some motherboards still have PWM only CPU Fan headers.
