jthoske
Asus A7N8X-Deluxe AMD Athlon XP 3000+ OEM (200mhz FSB) Corsair XMS PC3200 DDR 512MB 1 X DIMM Sapphire ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR NEC 16x Dual Layer DVD-RW/CD-RW Lian-Li PC65-B Antec TrueBlue 480w ATX PSU I just upgraded the CPU from a 2100+ to a 3000+, which gave me a 200mhz FSB, which is compatible with my A7N8X-DLX motherboard. The CPU will run fine and is recognized correctly at these speeds. I set everything up in the BIOS (latest BIOS rev. installed) and set the FSB to 200mhz (400DDR). If I set the RAM frequency to 200mhz, with latency settings set to [Auto]- my PC freezes up or gets unreference memory errors when playing 3-d games. I've tested the problem with Doom3, Quake3Arena, Tribes, Counter Strike:Source, and Half-Life2. I can play for either a very short amount of time (as soon as I get in-game) or sometimes it will allow me to play for 10 minutes or so. The onboard "Asus Speech Reporter" sometimes says "System failed memory test". This happens no matter what memory frequency I have the DIMM set to. I do not know if this is related to the crashing of 3-d applications. If I bump the Memory frequency back down to 166mhz, still using the [Auto] latency settings, I have no problems. I bought this specific set of memory 3-4years ago specifically because I wanted to use it when 200mhz CPUs were available for my motherboard. It was purchased either from Monach or Newegg, as all my components always come from them (usually newegg).
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 31, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 31, 2005 Please make sure that you have the latest bios and then load setup defaults and set the to 2.7 Volts. Then test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. If you do find one failing then lets get it or them replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However; if you get errors with both modules, that would suggest some other problem. And I would try testing the memory in another system to be sure. jthoske
I'll give this a go this weekend when I get home. If I am still having problems I will move forward with the RMA process on the stick.

jthoske
Sorry it took so long to reply, been really busy this summer- and I bought some substitute RAM to replace this stick for the time being (Corsair branded, actually haha) Anyways, I failed memtest86+, It ran for well over an hour, but it eventually failed. The Corsair ValueSelect 512MB Pc3200 runs fine on my system @ 200mhz, so I believe it is this chip. I'm going to fill out an RMA request form now.
