webrage
Hi all, kinda new to memory, I have an Intel 865GBFL Motherboard, probably pretty easy question, I have 2x512 matched TwinX XMS(product # twinx1024-3200c2pt), it is running in dual channel mode slots A and C, My question is if i buy the 2x1GB Can I run the twinx2048-3200c2pt(2x1GB) in slots A and C, move the 2x512 to slots B and D? Still in dual channel?
dhc0329
From what I heard it's pointless to have more than 2GB of RAM for Windows XP system. Anything exceeding 2GB will not be addressed. You will be better off if you just install 2x1GB in dual channel for maximum efficiency at 24watt (as opposed to 48watt consumption for taking all four slots). Yellowbeard
It is possible but not necessarily advisable. The MOBO can handle that amount of RAM. However, combining the 1gb sticks with the 512mb sticks means that you will combining different ICs and this is usually a BAD idea. You can get anything from stable, to unstable, to a system that will not boot. If you need to increase the RAM you have I would suggest using only the 2048mb TwinX kit. Mike.
