Always_Raptor
I am fairly new to PC building, although I know what I am doing for the most part. I spent 5 or so hours putting my new PC together in the beautiful 5000D Airflow case, I made sure to cable manage (as best as I could) and everything, as well as made sure all loose cables were plugged in where they needed to be. I had installed all three SATA cables that had come with the power supply because I figured that it couldn't hurt to have some extra cables. Once I was done, I had a little trouble closing the cable door, but that was to be expected I thought, and put all of the panels back on where they were before. I fired the PC up and it worked, so I began installing Windows, but had to stop and shut the PC down (I had to wake up early, and I have to get at least 7 hours of sleep or I am dead tired). When I went back to installing Windows in the afternoon, it fully downloaded and I started to download software. All of the sudden while I am trying to download Steam, the PC shuts off, all the lights except for the RAM are off (kind of strange I guess?). PSU was still flipped on, connected to the wall. I try to turn it on and off again, but all it does is make a click noise and then I can hear a sort of buzzing, which I thought was the fan. I look inside the PC after taking the panels off, nothing seems to be unplugged, but the 10 pin part of the 24 pin cable doesn't look all of the way in (all of the cables were tight to begin with, so I thought nothing of it). I take some things out that I think might be causing it, but to no avail, it just keeps clicking and buzzing. Then, I take the PSU out all of the way, make sure all the cables are secure, and put it back in. This time, I flip it on and nothing happens. I click it again and there is a loud POP and I think I see a flash from the PSU. This startles me, remember this is also my first real build, so I immediately unplug the PSU and take it out. What could have happened, and can it be fixed or do I have to buy another unit?
Administrators Technobeard Posted January 24, 2022 Administrators Share Posted January 24, 2022 Since this is a new build your best bet is to return it to the store since it's probably within their return policy. Otherwise, you can log in and create a support ticket at https://help.corsair.com and they can help with replacing it under the warranty.
Always_Raptor
I had originally bought it from Amazon in November, but I started a ticket with Corsair to RMA.
