jthompson
Ok a couple of months back, I purchased two TWINX1024-3200XL for my board which is a GA-8IK1100 rev. 1. I know there were some problems with this board way back in late 2003 (I experienced them), mainly from BIOS issues, etc, I believe. Anyway, I am running the latest bios (version F12). I have been having random crashes of programs referencing certain blocks of memory. So I downloaded memtest. http://www.memtest86.com I booted from the floppy and I get around 60 errors on test #3 within 5 minutes or so- this is with the following memory timings. 2-2-2-5 I tried setting cas latency down to 2.5-2-2-5 and I got around 605 errors on test #3. The odd thing is that if you tell the BIOS to detect memory timings by SPD it sets the cas latency to 2.5 (or so it says when it grays everything out). I know memtest86 isn't the 'sure-fire' way to detect problems, but it seems I am having some sort of issue with the RAM (obviously). So what more can I do? I followed the motherboard compaitbility search before I bought the modules on your website. http://compatible.corsairmemory.com/memorysearch.aspx?modelid=1010 And if they really are bad, how do I send them back? Should I get a different type of module?
Yellowbeard
Try setting the timngs to 2,3,2,6 with the "3" for tRCD or RAS to CAS delay. Also, make sure your RAM voltage is raised. You can safely go as high as 2.8v within warranty spex. Mike.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 25, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 25, 2005 Please test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts (Dim Over Voltage CNTRL to +.3 Volts) as well. If you do find one failing then lets get it or them replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However; if you get errors with both modules, that would suggest some other problem. And I would try testing the memory in another system to be sure. I did as you suggested and I got errors on one, but not on the other. On the good one I also tried different timings and normal and overvoltage as well- I didn't recieve any errors, even at the fastest timings, with the normal voltage. However, on the other chip I did. So, I'm guessing I have one bad RAM chip. The part numbers on the chips themselves are: CMX512-3200XL I guess two of these make TWINX1024-3200XL? Anyway I will follow your link about bad parts. Thanks.
