Memtest indicates my RAM is bad

Recommended Posts

About a year or so ago I purchased some Corsair Value Select 512MB400 RAM from newegg. Being lazy, I never got around to testing the RAM out, despite the fact that my computer showed multiple signs of potentially faulty RAM (random reboots, etc.).

Anyhow, I finally got around to running Memtest and one of the 2 sticks I purchased is plagued with errors on the 8th test. The other stick runs perfectly fine in the same slot. I even tried relaxing the settings (which were already at default) to see if I could work around this at all, but it was to no avail.

My roommate had recently purchased the same model RAM so I also tested his RAM out on my system, and memtest returned no errors... so I'm definitely convinced that the RAM is faulty.

Upon examining my Newegg account, they indicate that since the purchase took place over a year ago, they are unable to provide an RMA for my purchase.

Those are the details about my situation.... I was wondering if you offer an advanced replacement service, so that I can quickly receive some RAM and return my faulty one in the same package.

Thank You,

-A.J. Lee

I am sorry as we do not sell direct we would not have a way to do that type of transaction. But please test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts as well. If you do find one failing then lets get it or them replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

However; if you get errors with both modules, that would suggest some other problem. And I would try testing the memory in another system to be sure.
