artyb
Hi, I bought CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3 memory (2x 4GB) for my Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H motherboard because it has CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3 memory (2x 2GB) in it. I checked that the maximum supported memory is 16GB over 4 slots, so 4GB per slot. The machine keeps rebooting though. I've reset the BIOS to fail-safe defaults. Then started web searches and it seems likely that the issue is that manufacturing has shifted to 512x8 rather than 256x8 configuration. This information isn't stated on the specifications though, so I wasn't aware of the problem before purchasing. I thought I'd checked sufficiently. Can I return the RAM? Can you advise what RAM would be compatible with the motherboard and the existing RAM, which worked very well with overclocked settings. If I were to look for second hand CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 which revisions would have the lower density 256x8 memory chips? Same for CMX4GX3M2A1600C9, which revisions would be 256x8?
