oxfordonion
Hello, I have an Abit KD7-G with XP2600 and I have just bought some 1Gig corsair TwinX XMS3200XL, but I know nothing about the bios. I have just run 3dmark03 (probably not the best benchmark to test ram) and my score is pretty much the same as my old generic ram. Obviously this mobo doesn't support duel channel, but what settings will I need to apply in the bios to get any sort of boost? Thanks oxfordonion p.s. oh yeah should I keep the little metal clips on the memory? :)
oxfordonion
please help, it seems like a waste having expensive ram when I might as well have stuck with the cheapo stuff
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 23, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 23, 2005 Please install the modules in slots 1-3 and then set the following settings and re-test your system. CPU Freq: 166 MHz Memory Frequency: 100% Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts Resulting Frequency: 166MHz SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T
oxfordonion
thanks I tried that but the active to precharge only goes down to 6T anyway i changed all of the settings to what you told me (except tras) and the benchmark is still exactly the same, no performance increase at all :[pouts: anything else I could try? Thanks
vdg
1) memtest (http://www.memtest.org/) gives some kind of "performance numbers", but I have no idea how usefull they are. 2) ubench (http://www.phystech.com/download/ubench.html) is a *nix program for comparing CPU and RAM performance of different systems. If you don't have a linux distro installed, you can still try one of the live distros (http://www.livecdlist.com/) to compile. They run straight off the CD and don't touch your hard drives. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 23, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 23, 2005 And I would check that you have the latest chipset and video drivers installed.
oxfordonion
Thanks for the help guys but its still not going too well.... I have been using the torture tests with prime95. My old generic 2x512 runs fine, I can spend hours doing the tests with no failures at all, but with the corsair stuff I can only test for <1minute before it fails. I have tried all of the dim ports on my motherboard with the corsair stuff but still it fails within a minute. is my ram broken?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 25, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 25, 2005 Please test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts as well. If you do find one failing then lets get it or them replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However; if you get errors with both modules, that would suggest some other problem. And I would try testing the memory in another system to be sure.
