I have a bad RAM (I think)

Recommended Posts

My system :

MSI K8N Neo Platinum

AMD Sempron 3100+

Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti 4200

I bought recently a 512 MB Corsair RAM, and I added it to a noname 256 MB module I already had.

The number written on the RAM is :

VS512MB400

It worked fine for about 2 weeks, but for about 3 days now the system froze regularly, and it happened sooner as the days went by. This morning, it froze once again, and when I rebooted my PC, it started beeping.

When the 2 modules are put, it does 1 long beep and 2 very short ones.

When only the Corsair module is put, it makes continuous long beeps.

When only the noname module in put, it works fine.

I could not run Memtest+ with only the Corsair module on, since the screen won't even start.

I tried to run it with my noname module in slot1 and the Corsair in slot2.

The Memtest found many errors, all located in the Corsair Ram (all adress > 400 MB)

I also ran Memtest with my noname module, and no errors were found. All points out to the Corsair module.

Do you think I should replace the part ?

I saw you required the part number to deal with the problem, but I don't exactly know what it is. I have a "VALUE SELECT" label attached to my module. Here is what is written on it :

Corsair VALUE SELECT

VS512MB400

819 - 0515083 - 0 - 402281

I hope that will be enough. Thanks again.
