Brand new Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE - not working properly (to say the least...)

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just bought a Virtuoso Wireless RGB SE last Friday and I'm pretty disappointed by the issues I get with it.

For a 200€+ device I expected a little more ... no ... a lot more.

Since the installation of the Virtuoso, I never got it to work properly, sometimes I had sound only and no mic, mic only and no sound, no sound and no mic be it from wired USB mode or wireless connection. I never got the headset to work properly on wired USB mode but now I managed to have both sound and mic in wireless (which was one of the reasons I got the headset) but when I use the mic, after some time (15 minutes maybe or less) the sound becomes horrible, crackling, saturating, robot and I have to switch off the headset then switch it on again to get the sound back to normal and again after a short period the issue comes again. It happened on Discord, Signal calls (the 2 applications on which I use the microphone...)

So here are the things I've already tried to try to solve these issues.

On 1st install I used iCue 4.17.244

I have followed the steps found here but no luck, still had the headset working inconsistently (sound only and no mic, mic only and no sound, no sound and no mic, both sound and mic at times).

I tried to use wired USB mode and wireless mode on different USB ports => direct Front IO USB 3, direct Rear IO USB 2, direct Rear IO USB 3, tried all these ports also on a USB HUB and on USB extension.

I have tried to follow the reinstall steps again to install iCue v3.38.61 since it's the version that is downloadable when going to the donwload page dedicated to the headset.

For info : dongle FW version is v0.16.80 and headset FW version is v0.17.149 and system specs are available in my profile.

The best result was getting everything to work on wireless with iCue v3.38.61 regardless of where it's connected with sound and mic but only for a short period (if I use the mic) after wich I have to restart the headset by switching it off and on. Everything stays fine If I don't use the mic though.

Worst thing it did was shutting down other peripherals when I switched USB ports during my tests. It sometimes got my Razer keyboard, mouse or keypad undetected forcing me to physically disconnect then reconnect them so they work again. It never happened before getting the Virtuoso.

I've searched a lot to get a solution but never got closer to get it to work properly.

Another thing I noticed today is when I use the headset with 3.5mm jack on my phone I have "white noise" that stops only when I disconnect the jack from my phone

Sorry for the long post, I hope someone here will be able to help... I have opened a support ticket on saturday and haven't heard from Corsair support since...

I have/had basically the same problem/ problems.

I tried every single solution out there, but to no avail...

The problem I am experiencing is crackling sound that appears suddenly. when I use discord, the very fist minute or so everything is just fine, only for the sound to start crackling for a few seconds and then it disappears all together. the only way to fix it then is to use the aux feature... annoying as hell if I am gonna be honest....

I finally got a reply from the support and there is the procedure they gave :

We recommend performing a clean install of iCUE. Please follow the steps below:

    Open your computer's Control Panel.
Open the Programs and Features options.
Select Corsair Utility Engine in the list, and then select Uninstall.
Press Window Key + R to open the Run command.
    Type %appdata% and press Enter.
Delete any Corsair folders in the window that pops up.
Return to the Run window and type %localappdata%.
Delete any Corsair folders in the window that pops up.
Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\ for iCUE 3, or C:\Program Files\ for iCUE 4.
Delete any Corsair folders in that folder.
Type Regedit in the Run window and then click OK.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete the Corsair folder.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and delete the Corsair folder.
    Restart your computer.
Download a new installer file for iCUE from Corsair.com and reinstall.

I have followed these instructions (chose to install iCue v3.38.61 since it's the version that is downloadable for this headset as stated previously) and the results are the same so far except I didn't have time to test the mic.

To sum up the issues after :
1/ on usb :
 - sound OK on any port
 - mic KO (voice not detected in discord configuration menu) on any port

2/ on wireless :
 - sound and mic OK (voice detected in discord configuration menu) with dongle connected to a hub, since it's how I intend to use the headset, didn't test other ports
 - crackling after some time using mic : needs to be tested

So as far as my test goes, nothing has changed after applying the provided procedure ...

Small update on the situation:

After reporting that it did not work with iCue v3.38.61, the support asked me to try with the latest version (iCue v4.18.209 downloaded on dec 9th) which I think is a very recent version because the first time I tried with iCue v4 it was v4.17.244 (downloaded on nov 26th).

No surprises for me, the result is not different :

1/ wired usb :
 - sound OK on any port
 - mic KO (voice not detected in discord) except on front IO USB3.2 Gen1 port

2/ wireless :
 - sound and mic OK (voice detected in discord) with dongle connected to a usb extension (extension connected to a rear IO USB3.2 Gen2 port), since it's how I intend to use the headset, didn't test all the ports
 - crackling and "robot like" voices after some time (maybe 5 to 10 minutes) using mic in Discord and even sound totally cutting (but mic still works). I have to restart the headset by switching it off and on (switch to wired then switch back to wireless) to repair the sound issue but after another 5 to 10 minutes the issue is back
 - no issue at all for several hours if I do not use the microphone
 - did not test other ports this time around

3/ wired 3.5mm jack (not dependent on software install) :
 - sound and mic OK (tested on another computer and as handsfree headset on phone)

So issue is still not solved ...

I could find reports on the net for this kind of issue (less detailled but looks kinda similar) and no official reply from Corsair in the forums ... (examples: Reddit 1, Reddit 2)
