H80i Hydro Series working on LGA 1700 ?

Hi,

having found my never used sealed H80i (seems to be purchased years ago)  and could not find it on the retrofit list, I wonder if it will work on LGA 1700.

The sign reads:

CW-906008-WW

so it seems to be this model:

https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Liquid-Cooling/Hydro-Series™-H80i-High-Performance-Liquid-CPU-Cooler/p/CW-9060008-WW#tab-tech-specs

Any help will be highly appreciated.

That cooler is not going to be compatible with the LGA1700 socket/CPUs.

Thank you. So time to say good bye. Next generation ...

Anyhow, would be interesting to know why exactly this will not work as nearly all other hydros are compatible.

And if it's possible to create a mod for that. I mean it's just low tech brackets and some simple screws.

Yeah "Rex" (OP), I've got the exact same issue. Bought an H80i v2 2 years ago (2020) and never got around to installing it.

I also want to upgrade everything to Alder Lake and I'm also wondering what the big "incompatibilty" is with this cooler and the Corsair LGA1700 Retrofit Kit.  It's just 4 screws FFS.

I mean, the H100i (for example) supports the exact same Intel sockets (1200, 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011, 2066) as the H80i, why the hell is the H80i supposedly incompatible?

I would appreciate a more comprehensive response from "Corsair Notepad" as to the reason for this incompatibility.

Maybe to avoid complaints from people trying to cool a 12700 or 12900k with a 120mm radiator?

It would still be good to know for those aiming to use them on lower power LGA1700 CPUs.

The short answer is that the H80i V2 is a different overall design than the newer Platinum, Pro XT, and Elite Capellix coolers, which is not compatible with the LGA 1700 retrofit kit: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-|-Parts/PC-Components/Cooling/LGA1700-Retrofit-Kit/p/CW-8960091

More specifically, the physical CPU socket has different dimensions from the previous generation sockets you mentioned.  The LGA 1700 retrofit kit is required for installation of the AIO coolers it's compatible with for proper height and seat pressure so that thermal performance won't be impacted.  Installing it with your H80i V2 could potentially damage your components as it is not designed for that particular model.

Hopefully this clears up any confusion you have.  It you have more questions, you can also contact our support staff for more details:
