AX850 and 3080 Ti FE shut down

Recommended Posts

Just got my 1st 3080 Ti FE and 2nd is on its way. I was playing games like CS 1.6 and Warcraft yesterday it was working fine. But today I played Cyberpunk 2077 and Control. During CP 2077 gameplay PC turned off for the 1st time. I was in the game for 10-15mins. Then I switch it off from the PSU and on again. PC got stuck, power and reset switch wasn’t responding. After pc turned on I tried Control and this time pc turned off within 5mins. Then I tried Warcraft. Nothing happened. It worked fine for approx. 30mins test. Then I quit the game. I’m using the single pci cable with two 4+2 pin plug. What could be the issue here?

your single cable may be the issue.

try using two cables instead. the single cable may be heating already, and causing voltage drop, and GPU crashes.

that card has a TDP of 350W, that's twice the rating of a single 8 pin cable, so it's heavily overloaded.

It’s working fine now. Hopefully it won’t shut down again.

My system is still shutting down. Im playing Control and the problem is still there. I don’t know if the problem is from the PSU side(power draw/spike related or something else) or GPU side(driver related). Why this PSU can’t handle 3080 Ti FE? My old 2070S FE was working flawlessly.

maybe have a look at your GPU temperatures when you play. the 350D is a very closed case, it's possible it's overheating, now that the GPU gets power correctly.

the 3080 Ti is not far from 3090 levels of heat and power draw.

Your 2070 super was 215 watts. this one is 350. it will dump a LOT more heat into the case, so it's worth checking.

GPU core temp is under 84C during heavy gaming at 4K. Looks fine. Only mem. junction is reaching around 100-101C. Don’t know what is hotspot temp. I’m trying to observe the cause since I got this GPU(3 weeks). I’m still not sure but I think system shuts only when the GeForce experience game overlay is on. Buggy s/w causing power spikes. Is this possible? I use performance overlay a lot(but not always) to watch/track my FPS and gpu usage. This should be reported asap.
