Error "The memory could not be 'read' "

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

I have a brand new CPU incl. motherboard and memory. Everything works fine, but when I try to play 3D-Games like HL2 or Counterstrike:Source it's only a matter of time that the program quits with the following message:

The Instruction at 0x24179b46 referenced memory at 0x00e72ed0. The memory could not be 'read'

The numbers are always the same.

I allready tested the memory with memTest, but after 3872% coverage I didn't have any errors.

The error does not occur when I plug in my older RAMs, so it's definitly something wrong with the RAM-Support or settings.

Here's my hardware:

Athlon 64 3500+ (Venice)

ASUS A8V Deluxe (newest BIOS 1011.007)

2x VS512MB400 (both RAM-Slots tested, first the blue ones, then the others)

Any ideas for the BIOS-Settings? I already read something about using a slightly higher voltage of 2.7V, but my BIOS doesn't seem to have settings for this.

Greetings,

DJ

Please put the memory modules on either slots 1&3 or 2&4 and make sure that you have the latest BIOS installed for your MB; load optimized/set up default, and set the following BIOS settings;

VS512MB400 or VS1GBKIT400

Advanced CPU/Memory Configuration:

Memclock Mode: Limit

Memclock Value: 2:1 (DDR400)

Bank Interleaving: 4/Enabled

Burst Length: 8

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

2T Command Rate: Enabled

Hypertransport: 5X

Jumper Free/Frequency Voltage Control:

AI Overclock Tuner: Manual

CPU FSB Clock: 200

CPU Multiplier: Auto

CPU Voltage: Auto

DDR Voltage: 2.7 Volts

AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!*

All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let's make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!

After adjusting the settings I tried to play CS:S once more. At first it ran smooth but suddenly -> the same error!

Aftr this I installed the latest Beta-BIOS for the Mainboard and tried it again -> no problems till now!

Ok, I had a crash-to-desktop one time but the error-message didn't occur. I'm still testing and give you feedback.

Greetings,

DJ

i've been having the same issues. tried changing the slots, updating bios. the strange thing is that they worked fine for maybe a month and then i had all sorts of issues playing games, installations wouldn't complete because it said that the disk coudln't be read.. put back old RAM and im running just fine. Posted this so i could get an RMA. :)

What specific issue have you been having? Do you have a TwinX pack, or just 2 individual sticks? If the latter, what is the revision # of each stick?

Hello there people...

I might have the answer you are looking for..

The memory could not be read issue is when u play HL2 and CS:Source i persume ;-)

Have you installed a driver for your monitor or do you run it as a Plug n play screen ??

If you are running it like a Plug and play, please install the correct drivers for the monitor and try again...

This The memory could not be read issue with HL2 and CS:Source is a known problem if you look at the Steam website...

/Jonas
