finally got a gpu that can take a waterblock, need more radiator?

OK it's been since January trying to get a better GPU than a low form factor 1650 and I finally got through on AMD for a 6800 XT. I ordered the matching Corsair block to go on it.

I have a XD3 pump cooling a 5600X with a 280mm radiator so far. The fluid doesn't get hot; upper 30's at most. Will a 6800 XT's 300 more watts be too much? I can add a 140mm square radiator or maybe a 240 but that would cramp the bottom of the mATX motherboard because this is all squeezed in a Corsair 280x case.

Anyone have something similar in a 280x? Do I need more rad than the 280??

The 6800XT won't arrive until next week so I won't have a chance to just try it yet.

I'd suggest another radiator. The 280x has limited options however. Where is the 280mm radiator mounted?

I do  have a build in a 280X. It has its challenges. You do need to be careful having a radiator as exhaust in the top - the glass will act as a barrier and keeps the heat in, creating a "heat column" that winds up heating up things. Reversing it to intake helps a lot. There are also alternative tops that are more open.

The 280 is in the top as exhaust because the poor 1650's little fans have a hard enough time cooling it without the rad on intake. I plan to flip it after I get the 6800XT on the loop. I long ago 3D printed some risers to double the glass height which helped a lot.

The XD3 is in the back thanks to drilling a couple of holes. So I have plenty of space to put a 140 in the lower front. That will give me the equivalent radiator surface of a pair of 240's.

You might also be able to add a 240 in the bottom as exhaust. But with a microATX, that's be a tight, tight, tight fit. And possibly cover some ports on the lower side of the board. Then have the front as intake (this is how mine is set up, btw).

Having an additional rad in front as intake can potentially give you challenges by forcing waste heat (from that rad) through your other radiator. If you have bottom and the front/top as intake, though, you'll mitigate that somewhat.

I decided a 240 at the bottom would cover the chipset fan's intake and went with the 140 in front. It fit fine and is working well.
