OldWiseNut
Alrighty here goes. I am running 2 gigs of CMX512 3200XLPT 400mhz ram, (4 x 512) in my Asus P4P800-E Deluxe Motherboard. I ran mem test with all 4 sticks in and got many errors on tests 4 and 5. So I started the lengthy process of testing every stick in every possible combination. I first tested all 4 sticks individually in all 4 ram slots on my board, no errors. I then proceeded to test 2 x 512 sticks in slots 1-3 no errors, I then ran the other 2 sticks through the same slots 1-3 no errors, then I repeated the processs with slots 2-4, no errors. So im scratching my head like hrrmm so I tried to run all 4 again thinking maybe the ram was just seated badly the first time and sure enough error after error after error poped up on multiple cycles. So I was like ok this is odd but I will try running 3 sticks (which sucks cause i have to run them at single channle) and sure enough no errors no matter what combination I use them in. IE slots 1,3,4 or 1,2,3 or 2,3,4 etc etc. I am in desperate need of advice here, I simply do not know what else to try. I Paid for 2 gigs of rather pricey ram, I would like to be able to use all of it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance Roy *edit* I also forgot to mention that 2 of the sticks are v1.1 and the other 2 are v 1.2 I also tested them in combination of v 1.1 with a 1.2 in dual channel and I had no errors so I hope thats not the problem I had no idea the sticks i bought were gonna be different versions, I bought them about a month apart from newegg. GH2005
I had a very similiar experience over the last two weeks (testing various sticks in various slots overnight). I am finally convinced that its heat. My comp would usually crash during the day... then in memtest+ I would only get errors with all 4 sticks in, never with two or even three, and all sticks worked when individually tested, and in each slot also. Only with 4 sticks would it generate memtest errors, and even then, only on the 2nd pass and up during test 5. When I pulled out the sticks to rearrange, I would notice how damn hot they were, but again, seemed worse when all four were packed in together. By the way, I have the same mobo as you. For me, I think my new "quiet" case is the problem, less airflow (it's a Lian-Li with a strange fan system, the rear case fan points in, and there's this blower fan where the PCI cards are). What I finally did to convince myself: I ran memtest with all four sticks with the case open and a big home fan blowing right into the case... no errors on 3 passes. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 16, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 16, 2005 With 4 modules you may need to relax the timings and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.85 Volts as well. You might try Cass 2.5-3-3-7 and then test the system and tweak the timings from there.
