Hydro H100i Connecting/Disconnecting

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, recently I decided to upgrade my pc changing cpu, mb and ram.

I have downloaded Corsair iCue to manage colors on the Hydro H100i RGB Platinum and on the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro.

The problem is that i plugged the usb on the waterblock and sometimes happen that the led on the pump and fans would go off and back on.

This is the exported log from iCue (ServiceLogs\Corsair_Cooling.txt) immediately after the problem:

I dont know what's happening and the logs are pretty long, if is needed i can post the entire log file.

Another thing that is worth to consider is that i have this AIO since March 2020, previously i've never used iCue software since my old motherboard (msi z170 gaming m3) did not have more than one JUSB port.

If this could help, my configuration right now is:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600x
  • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk
  • Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB 3600Mhz
  • MSI GTX 970
  • Corsair Hydro H100i RGB Platinum

Maybe you'll want to update your BIOS first since AMD has issues with USB connexions.

Check this (long) thread

Thanks for the reply, i'll try to update the bios but i dont think that's the problem.

Another interesting fact is that this problem started to happen when i decided to put static led mode to both pump and ram through the iCue software.

At the moment i've disabled the static mode and my hardware is doing the classic rainbow pattern and seems to work fine.

the rainbow pattern uses pretty low current. If you tried some static white, it may still be a USB issue, if power is the culprit.

I'm still curious about that disconnect problem... what happens if you set it to white but very low brightness, and crank it up little by little?

I tried what you suggested and the problem happened a few times, less then before.

Additionally i did the following thing:

In iCue -> Illumination Effects (of the AIO) -> Illumination levels, i've disabled the default spiral rainbow pattern like shown in the image.

I also lowered the brightness to half of the bar,so as i said before, at the moment it  works correctly and i heard the windows 10 usb unplug sound just a few.

Honestly i dont know what to say 😅

If i were you i'd try the bios update, see if it fixes the USB issue. If it's a brand new build it's good to do it anyway. There were two major updates from AMD to lower idle power usage, and for that USB disconnect problem

If lowering the brightness makes the problem less frequent, then using a powered internal USB hub may also solve the issue. updating the bios is free though 😛

For the moment it seems to be ok, i'll keep an eye on the thread to see if somebody comes up with other suggestions

thanks man, really appreciated 👍

iCue v4.13.223 . I see there's an update to 4.14.179, so I'll try that in the mean time. I see a lot of references to this issue on Reddit, along with 'hey, follow this thread it fixed it ' leading to the corsair forums, but the thread no longer exists when I follow the link. This is happening alot - like multiple times time an hour. Visor is running linked across all Corsair components
