Corsair Hydro 100i RGB Platinum no fans rgb, cooler not detected by iCUE

Recommended Posts

Corsair Hydro 100i RGB Platinum, Hydro Series, 240 mm Radiator.

Recently bought off from Amazon, literally got it and installed yesterday (1:30am currently, installed it at about 9pm-10pm). Installed the cooler to best of my knownledege, though, no manual or installation guide came with the purchase. The cooler LED works fine, but not detected by iCUE so unable to change rgb. The radiator fans that camewith the purchase only had one wire, which is to power the the fans. They, work fine, spin and everything, however no LED or RGB etc on the fans, at all which is frustrating. The only cables that I had were 2x4 pins fan cables, coming from the fans, 1x3 pin which is plugged into the cpu fan which to the best of my knowledge is only for fan speed and temps as it is only a 3 pin a singular wire coming from the cooler. Then a sata cable which comes from the cooler and plugged into a SATA using a corsair powersupply, unsure what model but is about 700w-800w.

Why is the fan LEDs not working, why does it not come with any rgb hub wires, and why does my cooler not come up on my iCUE. I'm a huge corsair fan, always have been, pretty much all of my setup except cpu and gpu is corsair.

You haven’t mention the mini-usb to 9 pin internal USB 2 cable. This is the communication path between device and software. No usb, no cooler in the software and it will continue to run at default settings.

Was this a refurbished or open box item? The fans on the Platinum should have 2 wires — one for PWM and one for RGB. If there is only 1 wire, you might have an XT cooler and not a Platinum or someone switched the fans.

No, no mini-usb at all, this was advertised as new aswell so unsure what to do. Box seemed unsealed. THe only wire from the fans, is a power cable, I know what they look like when they are can be plugged into the controler etc. And there are only 2 wires from the cooler, 1x3 which is plugged into the cpu fan plug, and 1xsata, which is obviously plugged into a sata cable.

Edit: There is no mini usb connection on the cooler. Triple checked, no connections at all, only 2 wires which I stated above, and then obviously 2 wires to the radiator for cooling. Even still, surely the cooler would work via iCUE?

It sounds like someone may have pulled an Amazon-swap. Purchase, remove the required component(s), put in a replacement they no longer want, return. Many of the parts are too similar for a non-expert to distinguish.

I would return the unit as defective/tampered. See if you can find a serial number on the cooler. I am curious if someone swapped an XT unit in or simply purchased a Platinum in order to score the RGB fans and send back an unwanted pair in their place. A Platinum should have a RGB splitter coming off the pump. A XT is visually similar, but no RGB controller.

That's kinda annoying, guess I'll purchase this stuff off a different website from now on. Will return it, as you have said this, I've noticed the fans aren't the same as my current rgb fans, the circular inner section of the fans is thinner, guessing thats where the lights come from my current fans. Other than that they practically identical. Don't understand why the rgb on the cooler does not work though via icue.

These are the fans that came with the cooler:

These are the rgb fans that came with the corsair case:

As I've just noticed due to the above post, the inner fans on the first image are thinner than the second, which I'm guessing are real rgb fans, when the first, aren't at all...

The fans that came with the case are LL (12+4 LED) “light loop” fans. The fans that come with the Platinum are a high speed version of the ML-RGB fan with 4 center mounted LEDs. It won’t look the same and is both a different blade, frame, and lighting design. However, I strongly suspect those are not RGB fans and the base stock ML from some other model.

I am concerned if there is not a usb mini port opening on the left side of the pump. Try and find the part number on the cooler. It might be on the radiator. This conversation about fans and wires is too difficult to explain to someone from Amazon. A part number mismatch is a lot easier to explain.

Will do this tomorrow, to late in the night right now.

All they offered to me is a return, which I might take. Worst experience I've ever had with Amazon lol.

Edit: Also the picture of the rgb fans are the one I bought myself, didnt come with the case.

Well, unfortunately people do this. You buy KB type Kxx with brown switches, use it a few months and realize you wanted the one with Cherry Red. Past your return date, so order a new KB, put the old visually identical unit in the new box, and send it back as unwanted. The return specialist would have to be an expert in Corsair hardware to figure out and even the serial numbers are only 1 digit different. This appears to be the same thing with the hard to come by RGB fans from the Platinum, if that is even a Platinum at all. The only way this stuff stops if the victims (you) report it to Amazon so they can trace it back to the prior purchaser.

Any AIO item you get from Corsair should be new sealed. They do not refurbish old units and send them out. Also, I don't know where you are located, but I am looking at my Amazon (US) and the listing for the H100i Platinum. It is essentially selling for the same price as the H100i Elite that replaced it. There is no reason to buy the Platinum at a similar price to the Elite. With the Elite you get a massively upgraded pump LED and a standalone PWM/RGB controller for six fans. Works with all PWM fans for speed control, Corsair or not. Otherwise it is a very similar product, so you are getting far more goods with the Elite package. You could combine the LL fans on the front to the Elite's controller along with the two new ML-Elite (8 LED) or run them separately.

Yeah kinda worrying that stuff like this can even happen especially from a big company. Gonna return it, but have about a month todo it. Will probably then purchase the elite instead, when I bought the platinum it was significantly cheaper than any other cooler, but said new so had no worry about having a used/swapped item.

That is the legitimate value consideration - when it's a lot cheaper. It should be at this point, but world pricing is in a fairly tumultuous state.
