swoop
Hi, I just posted in the "Customer Care" forum and then noticed I should have posted here, oops sorry ! My trusted TwinX ram is producing 6000 errors in Memtest and having tried all the suggested fixes - SPD timings correct, DDR voltage etc - it still fails. I got hold of some spare ram to get me going again and this is fine - no errors at all so I'm pretty sure I need to RMA the TwinX to you. I'm in the UK so do I have to return it to the US or is there a UK agent I can send to, once I get my RMA. Thanks.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 12, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 12, 2005 Please test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts as well. If you do find one failing then lets get it or them replaced. I would try your reseller first and if they will not or cannot help then please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However; if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem, and I would try testing the memory in another system to be sure. swoop
Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried setting the DDR voltage to 2.7V and swapped the modules around in a pair and this still produces lots of errors ! I haven't tried one at a time but I thought that TwinX was supposed to be a matched pair so even if only one is failing then both should be replaced ? I will try it anyway and post back the results. My reseller didn't want to help as I am now past my 12 months warranty period they offer and they told me I would have to go back to you now. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 13, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 13, 2005 Yes, I would agree, but testing them one at a time may help to detect some other problem. In aother words, if you just have a failing module one will pass and one will fail. But if they both fail that might suggest some other problem as it would be unlikely you had 2 modules fail at the same time.
swoop
OK I tested both modules in turn and as you thought it''s only 1 of them which is bad. The first ran memtest for 5 complete loops without a single error but the second failed almost straight away and after a single complete test I had over 7000 errors ! So do I RMA just the single defective module or both as they are a matched pair and should be replaced as such ???
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 16, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 16, 2005 Well I would suggest you submit the pair or if you got them as a Twinx set please submit them that way so the modules match. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
